Women across US donate to Coakley for MA senate seat
Not sure how I feel about this. I do not really like Coakley.

By Brian C. Mooney
Globe Staff / December 5, 2009

The special Democratic primary for the US Senate may not be sparking widespread voter excitement in Massachusetts, but it appears to have struck a chord nationally with women who want to see one of their own assume the seat held by the late Edward M. Kennedy.

Women from every state have donated, usually in small-dollar amounts, to the campaign war chest of Attorney General Martha Coakley, who, through the most recent reporting period, had raised about twice as much as her nearest competitors in the four-way race that will be decided in Tuesday’s special primary.

Political fund-raising has long been dominated by men, but for the Coakley campaign two-thirds of its donors are women, a review by the Globe of her campaign finance reports shows.

(snip)
The next most successful candidate among female donors is Alan Khazei, the social entrepreneur, about half of whose contributors are women. The donor lists of the other two Democrats, US Representative Michael E. Capuano and private equity investor Stephen G. Pagliuca, are overwhelmingly male: 22 percent of Capuano’s donors, and 18 percent of Pagliuca’s, are female.

Just another prosecutor who overcharged a vulnerable suspect to make a name for herself.

2. Seriously.
Remember that kid from Charlestown? Whether he was guilty or not, she used that case to make a name for herself.

4. It's so hard knowing I have to vote for someone I don't know to replace someone I loved.

7. She prosecuted Louise Woodward?
Ugh. I think I'll go with Khazei, though I don't live in Massachusetts at this time.

8. I do not like her at all either.
I'm afraid she may win because she has the most name recognition, as well as a lot of money being raised through Emily's List.

I've disliked her since the Louise Woodward case. I also don't like prosecutors in the other branches of government: they tend to be real hard-asses, not great on civil liberties and against anything to do with medical marijuana. I went to a Capuano event recently and he said that Coakley was involved in something, trying to make it so a person could not use scientific evidence, ie DNA, in his/her case. He also said she got certified to argue before the Supreme Court--unfortunately I can't remember exactly what it was but I believe whatever it was would curtail civil liberties in some way. (Wish my memory was better.)

I'm going for Capuano myself. I like the guy. In Congress, he voted against the Iraq war and the Patriot Act. I believe he also voted against No Child Left Behind because it was an unfunded mandate. He's also a regular guy: he commented that he's probably the only one in Washington who lives in a two-family house, most of them probably don't even know what a two-family house is. Unfortunately, he's not very well know in the state outside of his area. (He's from Somerville, just outside Boston.)

10. I don't think it's right for outsiders to fund Coakley just because she's a woman.
Pisses me off that she could possibly fill Ted's seat.
