500 pedophile charges against Jesuits. Catholic League calls PETA fans 'unethical'?
By The Associated Press

SPOKANE — More than 500 people in the Pacific Northwest have filed claims against the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus, alleging that members of the Catholic order sexually abused them as children.

Remember this one?...
"The fact is that cats and dogs are a lot safer in pet stores than they are in the hands of PETA employees," Catholic League President Bill Donohue said in a statement. "Moreover, pet stores don't rip off Christian iconography and engage in cheap irreligious claims. PETA is a fraud.

"Those who support this organization sorely need a reality check. They also need a course in Ethics 101."

Here's the nude pic that has Catholic leaders outraged;

This is like the old saying -When you point the finger of blame at someone, look down and see the 3 fingers point right back at you-
Righties are the most twisted freaks there are, I swear.

1. The Catholic League is not affiliated with the Church.

They represent a tiny group of medieval-style conservatives who hate modernity with a passion.

3. Bill Donohue is to the average Catholic.....as Christopher Hitchens is to the average atheist.
Sometimes assholes are out there, spouting
hateful crap, and there's nothing anyone can
do about it....

18. I beg to differ. In my experience...
the average run-of-the-mill Catholic is not a nutcase like Donahoe (or whatever his name is). And I'm Catholic. I guess it depends on where you go. My church is urban so it's very diverse.

23. That's a stupid assumption on your part
Donahue doesn't speak for most Catholics- Not to say there aren't a few who agree with him but they are nut cases like him. Put away your broad Catholic hating brush and try to be a bit more social.

7. "Catholicism is not the only religion that has had problems
with pedophiles in their clergy. But it is the only religion that selects for them."

E. H.

Similarly, Catholicism is not the only religion that, by strictly forbidding birth control multiplies one of the other problems that it theoretically abhors, namely abortion, but it is foremost among them.

They were some of the most wonderful adults I knew as a child. They were also great liberal Democrats.

This makes me very sad. Very very sad.

12. I can hardly stand catholics excusing themselves about all of this.
"We aren't like the Catholic League. We aren't like the churches who covered up for their pedophile priests." It's a world wide religion headed by an ex-Nazi and a Holocaust denier. If I insisted on staying in a church like this I would be organizing and changing the leadership and it's policies. Otherwise, you are just enabling a bunch of monsters who prey on the weak and spread lies.

Seriously. The Church does a lot of bad things, but paying Donahue's bills is not one of them.

27. That's right. Catholics are never to blame for what their church does.
They are blameless while their leaders cover up rape and abuse. What could it possibly have to do with them? And anyone who disagrees is "painting with a broad brush". I'm not the one white washing organize evil.

25. When has Joseph Ratzinger aka pope Bendict ever
denies the holocaust? And a kid being in the Hitler Youth doesn't make a NAZI anymore the one playing Little League is in the Red Sox. I don't much care for the guy but your assumptions about him are ignorant to say the least. There are real reasons to dislike him.

26. The Ratz....
he revoked the excommunications of four schismatic Holocaust denying bishops. It was a outrageous slap in the face to all Jews and in bringing these men back into the "fold" he virtually endorsed their beliefs.

Or maybe you are correct. The message he was sending to the world was that he didn't agree with these monsters. It must be some opposite/catholic thing.

Your baseball analogy was weak. Can you imagine electing a President who was a Nazi Youth? A better analogy might be a teenage who committed murder compared to a serial killer.

31. All men who were in the Hitler Youth are guilty of murder
Don't think so and to my knowledge only one of the 4 schismatic bishops was a holocaust denier and Benedict may not have been aware. His name is Richard Williamson and he made an apology but did not recant. Just do some fact checking- If you find out differently and Richard Williamson is authorized to be a priest and bishop in the Catholic Church let me know. I can't find anything that changes what's below. I know that the Germans want to prosecute him (Williamson) since denying the Holocaust is a crime there.

VATICAN CITY Feb 27,2009 - The Vatican said Friday that the apology issued by an ultraconservative bishop who denied the Holocaust was not good enough to admit him into the Catholic Church as a clergyman.

14. awesome.... and they now are a hate cult
that's their message these days... if they had anything else to say that was positive, their extremists views on sex, sexuality and the plight of the equal rights seems to be now a crusade of sorts against American culture and less about spirituality. I now consider this church a hate group, because they are led by bigots. They have lost respect from me, and I did grow up in a religious background.

There are good people who claim to be catholics, unfortunately their own church no longer represents them, instead it represents a right wing bigoted fringe. They no longer represent god or love, but hatred and punishment.

It amuses me to no end that they think they still should have a place at the table when trying to teach morality to the rest of us.

20. There is a problem. The large majority of Jesuits are among the best people on earth.
I'm not trying to excuse the behavior of some -- one is too many -- priests, including, evidently, a number in the Society of Jesus. Let me add, please, that most Jesuits are among the best and the brightest of our or any generation. In addition to their good works, they are known as the "intellectuals of the Catholic Church." They also are very, very brave.

Declassified Docs Shed Light on Jesuits' Murders

Disclosure: My wife and I were married by a Jesuit, who also baptized our children. He risked his career by researching and writing about Liberation Theology, which is putting the Gospel into action through political means, as well as on the individual level. He was a great man.
