Time to start doing the right things

Interesting talk I had with a local democratic party official.

Party Official: You know I agree with you, cuts in other spending and a 4% increase in defense spending aren't good, and the Afghanistan escalation worries me. However you know how the Republicans are, they are going to go out and spin us as weak on defense and on terrorism if we don't. They always do it.

AllentownJake: Seems to me like they always do it regardless of what a democratic administration does. We probably should start doing what is right instead of doing things based on what we think the opposition will say about us.

Party Official: Easier said than done.

AllentownJake: Just an observation, but the Republicans never give a rats ass what we think when they craft policy. They justify what they've done and call us assholes, maybe that is a tactic we should be looking at...seeming that it has worked, and they stole it from FDR.

cares that he can't get his opposition to agree with him about doing what is right.....

2. I think the concern is about losing elections

Not necessarily getting republicans to agree.

3. Every concern is about wining the next

election - our politicians have taken a page from Wall Street - only looking ahead to the next election, like only working on the current quarters profits. Just imagine what this country would be like if those who control looked ahead and planned for 15-20 years down the road...
