ACORN prober: No illegal conduct on videos- Internal report finds no pattern of criminal behavior

GOP cries foul

WASHINGTON - An internal investigation of the community-organizing group ACORN concluded there was no criminal conduct by employees caught on videos offering advice on how to hide assets and falsify lending documents.

The report, which ACORN's CEO described as "part vindication, part constructive criticism and complete roadmap for the future," was unlikely to stem continuing political criticisms of the group and its efforts.

In a 47-page assessment that former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger was commissioned by the organization to do, he said ACORN leaders "appear committed to effect reform and are on their way to preserving ACORN and its mission in a reduced size and scope."

8. No it's not nor should it be closed.

It was clear to anyone looking at those tapes when they first came out, that only one of them even came close to anything that could be criticized. It was also made clear pretty shortly afterwards that the Rove wannabes who set them up, were lying (big surprise) about what actually happened to them as a result of their racist stunt. They lied about police reports, about how the workers responded to them and even about, it seems, what they were weariong. This is a crime, not to mention the crimes they committed in two states that still have not been prosecuted.

This case not only should not be closed, Democrats should be screaming for justice for ACORN, they should be apologizing for that anti-Constitutional bill they passed and they should fighting for more, not less fundiing for ACORN one of the few groups of people in this country who actually care about the rights of the poor and minorities.

But most of all, there should be a thorough investigation into who has been funding the liars on the right to go out and try to entrap people illegally and apologies need to be made to at least two of the workers who were libeled and slandered by the scum from the right. These people are dangerous to this democracy and ARE part of a big cabal on the right that has been gathering power for 30 years and whose goal it is to completely destroy any opposition to their fascist agenda.

were so badly smeared when Dems, like the cowards (or are they complicit) they usually are, ran as fast as they could to support Roves army of distorters.

Especially Juan Carlos Vera who never went along with the two liars, Giles and his prostitute, but in fact did call the police.

I really am disgusted with Democrats at this point. Obama too, used ACORN when he needed them, then dumped them as soon as the rightwing went after them. Always wanting to please the far right, to get a pat on the head from them, and never, ever succeeding. The struggle for approval from the right in the Dem Party is just plain nauseating, and they are willing to allow the destruction of decent people in the pursuit of that so-hard-get approval from the authoritarians on the right.

Can we get some people with guts in this party before it's too late?

and they need to do it with as much fanfare as the voted for it. Imagine Democrats rushing, without any investigation at all, to sign a bill written by the likes of that fool, Issa.

If only they would rush so fast to sign a bill that would provide health care for all Americans, or to stop a war, or something. But for this, it was practically a stampede to see who could 'please' their overlords on the right fast enough.

13. This is so true! When I was young we used to have true investigative reporting, but

that seems far gone now for the most part now we have just a few media outlets. Fortunately, we still have the internet until the RW media finally figures out how to really strangle it too.

One day, the citizens of this country will look back and say WTF. How did this happen. To me, DU is sadly a rarity in this country, anymore. A lot of people on DU question the status quo in a good way, but I do think a majority of the country does not for one reason or another, and that is tragic. Instead, often they listen to and believe the RW sound bites, as well as the inane RW political ads and propaganda. And, there is so much RW disinformation.

I find so many in the country so gullible. They don't look behind the curtains and charades to learn what is really going on, hence many are putty to mold into whatever.

And it's a disgrace that they did have to pay for it. This investigation should have been done by the Democrats in Congress and by the media. Sad that there is just no one willing to fight the rightwing smear machine and that Rove remains a revered figure in US politics.

21. I think you misunderstand what I said. I did not say that an

investigation was NOT needed. I said that those who should have conducted it, did not, that would be Congress who without any interest in sorting out the facts, cast an unconstitutional vote to 'punish' ACORN for something they had no clue about. And it should have done by law enforcement in the two states where Rove's students broke the law. The fact that ACORN had to do it themselves, further demonstrates who little interest our Congress has in exposing the devious and illegal actions of the far right.
