I know that that aspect of war is never discussed seriously by their echo chambers, but it seems to me that they are insatiable.

how many afghans are they willing to kill, to get what THEY want?

wtf do they want, anyway? any theories out there?

BTW: please, don't talk to me about the bogey man and his minions, either... i am sick to death of that fairy tale.

really. It's all us: government, corporate power. We are the Pentagon and Blackwater and Exxon-Mobil and IBM and Monsanto. Every one of us. We allow it to occur.

Edited on Mon Dec-07-09 09:28 PM by ShamelessHussy
that didn't work at all, in fact they laughed at us and ignored us.

and so it goes...

i guess it needs to impact most people directly for years before they will actually fight back, but with the current economic crisis, i think that time may be a coming.

Are you kidding?

But that doesn't mean we can't hold any of our elected leaders in contempt and work to change their minds when they contine destructive policies.

19. Nice sentiment, but I disagree totally, Baked. The Powers that Be have been honing
their group manipulation skills since WWII. We The People are being subliminally directed in ways that most people cannot even conceive of. When that subliminal direction fails there are many other methods that are employed to negate our influence over our government's decisions: ignore our wishes tops the list; emphasize the importance of the minority position over the majority position; coercion/assassination of those who delve too deeply into the workings of the state; buying off of the very representatives who are supposed to do the will of the people.

Many of us fight this on a daily basis, but cannot overcome the effects of the state propaganda machine.

28. Not wrong, but not entirely right either.
The real questions are, which of us is willing to be shot, and how much of a difference would that would make?

I'm not crazy about the answer to either question....

11. Why don't you check out some security websites, or:
read Seeds of Terror by Gretchen Peters, or the Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright, or The Counter-Terrorism Puzzle, by Boaz Ganor. A repetetive occurence I notice in du, is a lot of commentary on war, the military industrial complex, corporatization, without reading any literature about the rise of terrorism, and the current terrorist threat. If you have knowledge about the aformentioned, you may still disagree with our foreign adventures, but at least you will probably acknowledge the breadth of the threat. If you really care to challenge your opinions/assertions you will read some books, and not just glance at linked articles.

14. So I am guessing your point here is that the war in Afghanistan is justified?
That we should sacrifice our economy and our fellow Americans to save ourselves from the terrorists? I personally see families living in cars and eating at church food lines. Living in the woods under tarps. Two homeless died in the last two weeks here. Plez tell me what my billions are going for in Afghanistan. What is our goal?

22. Wow was I a long way off. I thought you were trying to tell the OP and DU to study up more
on the danger of terrorism before posting objections to the war. And not "just glance at linked articles". While I certainly agree that we can all benefit from more reading, I am not sure what the cut off is for acquiring knowledge before one can become knowledgeable enough to post. If you have some knowledge that will help the OP and DU know more about this subject, please bless us. In fact, I noticed that you didnt provide your opinion on the issue. Do you think our presence in Afghanistan is justified?

24. I have and in my opinion it doesn't justify the military responce and budget
That is greater than the cold war.

The terrorist threat is better delt with by education and targeted police action.

What is going on now only fules the fire, which leads me to suspect a hidden agenda.

Now I will suggest you read some Chomsky and Parenti and 3 cups of tea (required reading by special forces)

12. They don't want Afghan..Pakistan is the goal....
The U.S. and Great Britain can not let China gain a foothold by establishing an energy and economic corridor through Afghanistan. Thanks to our CONgress (and corporate offshoring), China is a growing military threat , and already is financially stronger then the U.S. Access to oil is the crucial factor.

The U.S. can't attack Pakistan directly, because they have nuclear weapons. However, if the CIA can force the tribes out of Afghans and into Pakistan and foment a civil war, the area can be divided up into 3 or 4 smaller countries and controlled with puppet American stooges as Prime Minister. ( ala Karzai)

Obama will use the Drone missile attacks to kill innocent civilian Pashtuns in an effort to drive them towards Pakistan, where the CIA can carry out rendition, kidnapping, executions, false flag bombings and anything else they can think of to pit one tribe against the other and create civil war.

We will indeed be there for many years and many U.S. service people will die so that Goldman Sachs and the insider-elite can maintain their lifestyle. This is very dangerous foreign policy and could blow up in Obama's face at any time. Either he is not getting good advice or he is listening to the wrong people.
