Is Mr. Squiggles the Zhu Zhu pet safe?

Mr. Squiggles the Zhu Zhu Pet toy hamster is this years' newest holiday craze. Which is why many people may have been concerned by the reports that came out over the weekend about the poor safety ratings that Mr. Squiggles recently received from The Good Guide, a consumer group that claims to "find safe, healthy and green products."

The Good Guide released a press release over the weekend claiming that Mr. Squiggles Pets hamsters, made by Zhu Zhu toys are unsafe after finding antimony, which can cause health problems, on the hair and nose of one of the toy hamsters. The group assigned the toy, aimed at 3- to 10-year-olds, a rating of 5.2 on a 10-point scale.

Today the Good Guide issuing a retraction because of incorrectly measuring levels of harmful chemicals in the toys.

As it turns out the group was wrong and incorrectly measured chemical levels in the product. Not only did the Good Guide release a retraction today, the EPA also released a statement assuring consumers that the levels were normal.
