Elias the Polkadotted Puppy, Warning Graphic Pics
I make it a point to do some shopping for a charity this Holiday Season.I work part time in a min wage job but know that I will never not have just a little bit to give. This year I am giving a little to SARA . They are a No Kill animal shelter that takes in cats dogs and farm animals and even have some permanent "residents" who need special care. They really do care about animals and take heroic steps to rehabilitate them.Hopefully this story will inspire you to donate to them or another similar animal rescue or charity that takes "hopeless causes"

Society For Animal Rescue and Adoption About 3 weeks ago, we got word from 2 volunteers that some pups were left abandoned, chained and starving. Here is their remarkable recovery since then.

A Before Shot: left chained, Elias wasted away in the backyard after his owner moved away.

Elias, after the volunteers drove him to the vet.

Elias now. Starting to grow back polka-dotted fur, getting fat and happy, he's on his way to a better life at SARA.

2. How you treat the least of these...
Something like that...

I'm not up on my Bible verses, but there's something like that in the Bible.

Poor little pup.

May she soon recover and find a loving home!

8. It's" Matthew 25: 35-40"
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 02:18 AM by Ken Burch
"‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

36) naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’

37) “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?

38) ‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?

39) ‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’

40) “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’ "

9. Ah, I thank you!
That is certainly the appropriate text for this pup, and for so many occasions.

13. Stuff like that is why I let Jesus into my pantheon
His daddy, Yahweh, isn't allowed because he doesn't play well with others.

5. Thank you for posting and for donating.
My rescue only does "hopeless causes" so I can easily appreciate a heroic animal rescue when I see one. Nice work, SARA!

7. You truly rock!
I only gave a monetary donation which is easy. The true heroes are the ladies of SARA who go in day in and day out and take care of and provide a nice home and quality of life for abused, neglected, mutilated , and chronically ill animals. I was a little nervous about starting this thread the purpose of my thread was not to toot my own horn but to get people to see what organizations like SARA do and also to maybe nudge some to play Santa to them.

6. How anyone can do that
to an animal is beyond me. Poor thing.

I do animal rescue, too, and it is so painful to see the confusion and fear in an animal's eyes after it has been dumped in some strange place far from home.

Elias is one of the lucky ones.

10. I found a dog in similar shape a few years back...
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 02:07 AM by Contrary1
I was at Kmart one night, and as I was backing up, I caught a glimpse of something white behind my car. I opened the door to investigate, and in hopped this skinny little mutt. He found the passenger seat empty, and claimed it for himself.

I had another stop to make, and when I returned to the car; he was happily eating the cardboard wrapper from a fast food burger.

Long story short...I took him to the vet the next morning. He weighed less than half of what he should have. About 75% of his fur had fallen out due to malnutrition. The vet figured from his condition, he had been out on his own for 4-6 months.

What a sweetheart Nicky turned out to be. Rescued dogs are the best. I encourage anyone with the means to open your heart and your home to one. You won't regret it.

11. That poor little thing
I don't know how people do that. I use the term people generously too, as it is very inhumane to chain a living creature up to starve. I don't care what their circumstances are, they took on the responsibility of taking care of that poor animal. I read another story of some dogs left fenced in a foreclosed home a while back. It would be more humane to have them put to sleep than to suffer starvation and thirst, much less the abandonment of their owners. These people, should they be found, need to do some jail time.

12. Exactly.
If you have no desire to be a responsible pet owner, then why have one?
