One of the sickest aspects of the Bush years
was the conflation of support for Bush administration policies with support for soldiers sent to carry out those policies.

1)The politicians hid from criticism behind soldiers. Talk about cowardly.

2)They didn't not have the best interests of soldiers at heart. It has been admitted that torture put soldiers at greater risk of retaliation, not to mention at greater risk if captured. Bremer's occupation policy in Iraq helped create the insurgency soldiers had to face.

Is this approach now ok because the Obama administration is in charge?

1. whatever Obama does, it's ok, because Obama is doing it
War: bad when it was Bush, but needed when Obama does it.
Patriot Act: I didnt care to hear his excuse for that one.

et cetera

Brace yourself, here come the flames

4. So the surge
truly gives soldiers a chance to win the war on terror?

5. No, but I don't see that here
Just the opposite, using them to oppose the war. Saying they will be deployed, claiming to be related to one, they could get hurt or killed there, and therefore, one must oppose the war.

I always agreed we could oppose the war without undermining the troops, that those were separate questions, and the right was awful to try to use the troops in that way to try to force our opinion to be in favor of the war.

Yet it would be equally unfair to whoever finds the war necessary (and that would include many of the troops) and accuse them of being in favor of soldiers dying or being hurt somehow. That happens, but is to be expected in a war, and some wars are necessary.

Which is not to say I think Afghanistan is necessary. But that debate should be on whether it is necessary or not, without reference to the individuals fighting the war either way. It's just using them to support an argument, which is very low.

7. There is a direct correlation between tough times for Obama and the number of "Bush's Fault!"
threads. MoveOn and deal with today.
