Sign-"Laid Off-Two Children To Feed" |
|
I live in Orlando and stopped at a Publix shopping center to buy some grocries. Lord, it's tough down here. I see this sign being held by a twenty something guy that says "Laid Off-Two Children To Feed". Fo the moment I forgot how tapped out I was and looked in my wallet and gave him $2.00. Two years ago I could have given him a $20.00 or a $50.00. I felt bad for him I couldn't give him more and bad for myself that I didn't have more to give. I asked him what he did and he said construction. I wish I had some money because there's wotk around my home that needs doing. I also told him about a food pantry at the church I go to. He said a man saw him and his sign and might call him with work. I hope so.

1. I hope he finds something soon. |

What a good man, willing to put himself out there like that for his family and setting aside his pride.

"Brother kidnapped by gorillas. Need money for ninja lessons and monkey suit."
Not entirely certain he was telling the truth. But I gave him some change anyway.

I see signs everywhere now. You cannot go to the local grocery stores without seeing people begging now. It is heartbreaking to see some of the frail old people out there too now..and more women on the streets and families with kids living in cars too. This is a depression. Call it like it is.

4. 2 bucks is a lot of money when you don't have 2 bucks. |
|
If others were as generous as you he might be able to feed his family.
Bravo to you for helping.

5. Unfortunately there are professional panhandlers who lie like a rug. |
|
We have one who stands by the stoplight by the supermarket. Sign says, "will work for food" as he stands there shivering day after day. Of course his coat is stashed across the street. Enough people give him cash money to keep him coming back to beg because the last thing he wants is work. I've also read that people have seen him dropped off at the intersection by cab since it is not near any residential area.
Where I live if someone is laid off and has 2 kids to feed they will find help in doing that without having to beg. Those who falsely beg and claim to want work when that is the last thing they do want give those who are truly needy a bad name and it is usually the case that those who are truly needy will not beg. My community is not big but there are people here who help the truly needy or point to where they can get help.
