Kittens rescued from landfill
Kittens rescued from landfill

BOSTON, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Animal control officials in Boston said they rescued three kittens that had apparently been abandoned in a landfill.

Pam Peebles, executive director of the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, said a passerby informed officials that three kittens were trudging through sludge at the landfill Thursday and an officer was dispatched to catch the young cats, the Boston Herald reported Friday.

"It appears that these animals were thrown away like garbage without any hope of surviving," Peebles said. "These kittens are lucky to be alive, and we will continue to evaluate their health over the next few days."

She said a staff veterinarian is treating the kittens, which have been named Docker, Tuggy and Rudder. She said two of the felines are being treated for dangerously low body temperatures and all three animals are currently uncomfortable around humans.

2. Stories like this make my blood boil
How much harder would it have been to take them to a shelter? Or a vets office? Or even a pet food store (where my two rescues were abandoned)? Motherfu#*&ers.

4. My wife found four kittens in a dumpster sitting on a cardboard tray in a sea of beer bottles...
Edited on Fri Dec-11-09 02:17 PM by onehandle
...in a closed dumpster behind a strip mall bar a few years ago. They were left there to die and were lucky they were not 'recycled' with the thousands of bottles.

After taking turns running home from work to nurse them for several weeks, we kept two (one of which is in my lap) and friends took the other two.

5. Poor babies.
One of my kitties was dumped as a kitten, too. She was dumped at a deer hunters' club out in the country. Fortunately, she loves people and found the right person to suck up to at one of the club's pot lucks. Otherwise, she would have become target practice. I hope these kittens are lucky as she was, and they find a good home.

Sometimes, I really hate people.

14. Thrown From A Truck

A friend was driving home one night when she saw something thrown from the vehicle in front of her. She pulled over because something didn't appear right. She discovered a little fur ball lying in the ditch. Her son immediately wanted to take him home and make him better. She agreed. He asked if he could call him Kevin. Kids... sure, why not. Turned out her son was allergic to cats, so she asked me if I wanted a cat. Had one, what was two. Now it's three cats(Kevin, Kenko, and Lucy) and a dog(Jazz). Was two dogs, but recently 13 year old Skippy decided she'd had a pretty good life and it was time to go home.

I love my pets. Sometimes, they're the only thing that makes any sense of this world.

Will Rogers - "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went". I'd include cats in there as well.

7. My daughter's two cats are dumpster babies ...
They were left to die in a dumpster where she worked. She went out to the dumpster in the evening and heard pitiful mewling, and suddenly she had a new family.

12. I have a soft spot for such kitties
Edited on Fri Dec-11-09 03:10 PM by juno jones
I've brought many of them home, most stayed with us.

There were Ozzie and Opus, who were found in parking lots.

There was Spooks found by the side of the road amidst his dead littermates.

There was Fuzzbuster who was living behind the restaurant.

Most recent is Max who was found in a cardboard box outside the grocery store, eyes barely opened and little ears still furled (about 4 weeks or so). He is now a big handsome Bengal mix and a great companion.

Best of luck to these kitties and to all who have adopted their cats in similar circumstances! :toast:

On edit: Max (R) and Caliban(L,rescued feral baby we got to socialize Max, while he was socialized in return)at thanksgiving this year stalking the turkey:
