Some "pious" Muslims make a point of keeping a bruise on their forehead where they smack the ground during their prayers.

It was a sort of status symbol a year or so ago in Egypt, according to something I read then; don't know if it's still that or if the reporter simply got it wrong. The frequent cause of the forehead botch, though, is still hitting the floor with the forehead.
