Here is some BS from the speech

"Warning the 14th District Republicans Mr. Gingrich said, "The other side has no answers. The other side is not going to improve anything. And if we are not careful the other side is going to turn the whole country into Detroit. Then we will all be uneducated, we will all be poor, and we will all live in dangerous places."

Although Mr. Gingrich praised President Obama's Nobel lecture on a "Just War", he took exception to the climate treaty talks in Copenhagen. "It is going to be a disaster, and we should be committed to not implementing Copenhagen in its current form."

Guess what Newt, you are the one with no solution. It is people with your policies that got in this mess. It is your policies that have messed up Detriot the mess than it is.

3. the danger that people perceive in Detroit, IMO is much over rated

I've spent a lot of my time in Detroit over my 50 years and I've never been shot, robbed, raped or carjacked. In fact, I was in the city just yesterday. I'm not saying crime doesn't happen, but it happens everywhere. Newt is wrong, what has happened to Detroit is abandonment by the Republicans (urban flight) because of their fear of minorities, greed and corruption. What has happened to Detroit will continue to happen elsewhere as long as those elements remain in place.

Wasn't Washington DC the murder capital of the world for a while? Yeah I thought so.

This year, only Chicago rivals DC as the murder capital of the world. Both cities have a ban on guns if recall, so I would say that it's quite a feat. The greed, the corruption, see Newtie.....

7. Well, some have said that Detroit never really recovered from

the '67 riots. I don't think that's true. I think Coleman Young played a huge role in Detroit's downward spiral. As much as I liked and admired him as a shrewed politician, he bit off his nose to spite his face and Detroit hasn't been the same but got even worse after Young passed. People want to blame Kilpatrick and indeed, he picked the carcus clean but it didn't have far to go before hitting the bottom.

Every time I go there I feel so sad, remembering what was once a great city. Fond memories in that city are everywhere for me and many others.

I actually saw improvement in Detroit wile Dennis Archer was mayor. I worked in the city back before he was elected. I remember trying to drive down W. Grand Blvd to get to the office through the un-plowed roads. After Archer was elected, the roads were once again cleaned. Mayor Archer also implemented a program to eliminate blighted housing. Of course Clinton was president too, so more Federal bones were thrown to Detroit during those years. But what I saw from the people I worked with that lived in the city, thye were investing in it themselves.

I have a very good friend that still lives in the city. I've tried to talk her and her family in leaving. It's expensive to live there unless you know how to be poor. But alas, she's a bleeding heart liberal and believes she can save the city single handed. However, these aren't the people that get the recognition, these people who should have leadership positions in the city are instead invisible while the lawyers and successful (corrupt) business leaders rape the city.

had a chance to come back. I even stayed during that time, convinced that Archer was doing a great job and he did. But for many, he wasn't "black" enough and the rest is history.

Ignorance, racism and the collapse of American manufacturing led to Detroit being Detroit -- ill education, systemic poverty, unsafe neighborhoods. Odd, these three have all been exacerbated to the point of systemization by conservative fiscal policies.
