Is this another disaster in the making? Why isn't the media covering it?

1. Because this happens every time it rains for more than 15 minutes

Particularly when the ground is already saturated. The same streets flood in the same places; the main difference this time is that it's been going on all day instead of a brief downpour, so the pumps haven't had a chance to work. But once the rain stops, give it an hour and all that'll be left are some puddles and eroded soil.

2. I don't know about future disasters, but Atlanta had worse flooding

than that over the last month or so. Hundreds of homes were lost and much else.

3. It's flooding here in Biloxi, too.

We've all had a lot of rain in a very short time, already beating our monthly average. A lot of roads are closed, so I stayed in tonight. It will run off soon, though, not to worry.

6. It's common enough that people don't

think too much about it. We still have people whose cars get stalled when they try to drive through too much water, but we don't have too many serious problems, generally speaking. It's nothing like those poor people who get caught in blizzards up north.

5. Back in '95 - we had 18 inches fall in like three hours ...

the pumping stations couldn't handle it.. it put about a foot of water in my apartment, lost about all the furniture, we had a canal right behind us and let me tell you, that water stinks.

7. Because localized flooding in a low-lying city is barely even local news?

Flooding is a predictable wintertime event in a lot of places. It's not national news unless National Guard choppers start rescuing people from the roofs of their cars.

8. If you are in a flood zone in NO. you know it. They have signs.

whole fuckin thing is below sea level. It's pretty cool.

9. Like being down on Riverwalk........

and watching the cargo ships and tankers pass by ABOVE you on the river. Yeah, it IS kinda' cool. :) Until you realize that all that's standing between you and total disaster is a man made levee. :scared:
