Once you delete the New Testament, you have no alternative.

p. s. to DU bible know-it-alls: is this correct?

1. The Messianic Jews have already tried to become Jews.
By being misleading and using Hebrew words. And having church on Saturday, wearing prayer shawls, etc.

They are intellectually bankrupt, lying people, a front group of the Southern Baptists to stealth convert Jews, and they piss me off.

However, Jesus is not the Messiah and all this is explained at the following website: www.jewsforjudaism.org

The evangelical xtians are doing this too by supporting Israel.

2. I know a couple of Messianic Jews and truly with all due respect
Edited on Sun Dec-13-09 05:42 PM by azurnoir
both of them were born Jewish and practiced Judaism their entire lives, they do not celebrate Christmas or Easter they do celebrate Chanukah and Passover and do not try to convert anyone by stealth or other means however I do note a good deal of hostility towards them from both the Christian and Jewish communities
this is not an endorsement of this religion. it just to say do not be so judgmental, I my self do not ascribe to any religion but try not to judge others that do

eta they don't have "church" on Saturday they have Synagogue on Friday evening

7. Blah blah blah...
Who are you to tell us who the messiah is (or isn't)? Jews for Judiasm? Is that like Christians for Christianity? It's all the same after a while.

An orthodox Jewish friend told me that he can PROVE that God exists in his belief system. And he told me that when the messiah does come, all the non-Jews will be the Jews servants, but we'll like it and be happy. I was polite, but it made me want to laugh and laugh and laugh.

Don't be an evangelical of any sort and pretend to know or be able to prove something as etheral as religion and God.

3. No, it will cause them to act like their imagined ideas of Jews prior to the rabbinic tradition
They won't have the centuries of commentary, argument, and interpretation that actual Jews have. They will also still be relying on a translation of Torah that doesn't necessarily say what the King James Bible says.

5. If they reject the New Testament,
I think that disqualifies them from being Christians any longer. I can't think of a Christian denomination that would accept people who don't accept the writings in the New Testament. However, I don't think that would necessarily make them Jewish as a result. They would probably be considered a separate splinter religion of their own.

9. Naw, it won't make them Jews. It will just prove they're idiots.
If they want to devalue their own "sacred and divinely inspired" text, let them have at it. It will just further prove they don't actually believe that crap either.

10. The evangelicals/fundamentalists ignorance of what they imagine is
"their" religion is almost laughable. They have NO interest in or knowledge of any christian or jewish tradition or thought over the centuries - they listen to pastor whoever or read the bible and make it up as they go along, or just go with the slogans.

Their beliefs amount to a primative sort of magical thinking, not involving any good works or responsibility.

Born Again is pretty fucking stupid, and all this revelations crap is right out of Saturday morning cartoons.

It's ignorance loving ignorance.
