The group that loves to hate is planning a whirlwind tour of South Florida this week, starting today.

Westboro Baptist Church, a Kansas group known for picketing soldiers' funerals and staging inflammatory demonstrations, has targeted Jewish organizations, including ones in West Palm Beach, Loxahatchee, Palm Beach Gardens and suburban Boca Raton, on its three-day campaign, according to its web page.

The Anti-Defamation League calls Westboro "a small, virulently homophobic, anti-Semitic hate group."

Andrew Rosenkrantz, the ADL's Florida regional director, was blunt about the group, noting that it was not associated with any known mainstream religious organization.

"Their message is disgusting and reprehensible," he said.

The Westboro demonstration at the Jewish Federation is scheduled for Tuesday morning, when parents are dropping off children at school on the federation campus.

"We will ignore them," said Bill Bernstein, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.

I can't imagine being a neighbor of theirs, but I'd do my very very best to be an overtly evil neighbor to them. Probably start by filming the license plates of every car that shows up for church, and posting them on the interwebs.

I'd have a hair trigger alert on code violation, would routinely point directional recording devices at their windows and post the recordings on the interwebs and host ginormous gay block parties raising money to fight homophobia.

Add to that, I'd keep a gladyskravitz log of their comings and goings, plus webcams and hair trigger motion detector 1000 watt arc lights on their properties. from across the street.
