8. We're not really celebrating any of them this year.

Two of my daughters and their families are out of state, and I've told the third one she can spend Christmas with her other obligations here -- her dad's family and her boyfriend's. I'm sending some photo prints and DU calendars to the girls outside with gift certificates/cash for the kids. My husband and I are going down to Alyeska Resort for Christmas brunch. That's about it. We will not have a tree.

We decided a couple of years ago to start downsizing Christmas. We've both just gotten burnt out on it, and the kids are happy to be relieved of the obligation of buying us gifts. I have no regrets. 62 Christmas celebrations have been enough for me.

You forgot Winter Solstice!

I don't have decorations up, nor do I wish to, as I am alone, and don't care. A friend and I are going to a nice restaurant on the 25th and exchanging gifts that morning, but that's it. When we get home, I will take a customary nap, and nothing more.

I am currently putting together my "holiday" cards, but with nothing that specifically names a holiday. I see it as "the season" more than anything else, and am quite happy to stay as far away from all the shopping malls, big department stores, and any gathering of 25 or more frantic shoppers (I shop via eBay and Amazon only!).

We often go out and look at other peoples' lights, but there seem to be a lot less lights this year, as we discovered on our first foray.

If someone greets me with a "Merry Christmas!" I will reply with same. If they say "Happy Hannukah!" I again reply with same. That way no one is embarrassed by what I might reply. I might not agree with their particular holiday, but the sentiment is there, and that's what is important.
