and the same goes for healthcare reform.

If our Party is not willing to take the issue to the people, with the support of the people, then I question the legitimacy of the issue.

Why do they appear afraid to make it a political issue? Are they afraid of losing? Let them dare the Republicans or whomever to vote against the reform and then let them answer to the voters in the next election? What is wrong with that approach?

Let them kill it this time and bring it back up in the election year. But that is something they shy away from doing. They don't want the voters to be thinking of healthcare reform in an election year. Why not?

The Democrats are readying themselves for a defeat anyway. So why not stand up for something that the people can support? If the Republicans want to defend the insurance companies, let them. Let them answer to the voters next November. Make this the issue for the next election. After all, if it's not worth fighting for, it's not worth having.

1. Politicians are generally loathe to take risks. They are herd animals.

They seek the safety of the center of the herd and see the status quo as the least risky stance.

It's the "go along to get along" mentality writ large.

And, for them it's the next election that supersedes all consideration of "the long term".
