"I'm calling my elected leaders", blah blah blah
Guess what, THEY DON'T CARE! They are paid-off whorish tools for our failed capitalist system of corruption and propaganda. Want health care like 77% of the rest of us? TUFF SHIT! Want war criminals held accountable for torture camps and 1000 other war crimes and conspiracies? TUFF SHIT. Want out of useless wars that Bushies and the failed industrial war machine colluded to commit? TUFF SHIT.

Watch Friday's Bill Moyers program, talking to corrupt leaders NEVER WORKS.

19. Hmm...I'm betting his office is getting TONS of calls just now.
He's not your Senator, is he? What responses did you get from contacting your own Senators? They're a lot more likely to be interested in what you have to say, since you're a constituent. You did contact your own Senators, right?

2. I agree.
They all answer to the same leaders, and the voters don't enter into the equation.

17. That's odd. My elected Congress members are very responsive.
Amy Klobuchar answers my emails, as does Al Franken. My House member, Betty McCollum, does too. Perhaps you have less responsive ones. Go work for candidates in your state and get them elected. Then, when you write to them, you'll get a reply.

3. Doesn't help that the corporations spend so much influencing voters
Even when the Congresscritter isn't in the pocket of big business, his or her voters have already been influenced, and so most of the calls he gets are in their favor, not ours.

4. You are incorrect. Like your namesake vacuum tube,
your ideas are obsolete except in old-style electronic equipment.

There are many instances where public contact has had results in the past, and there will be in the future. If you truly believe what you are saying, the only answer for you is to drop out of politics entirely.

9. Moyers would be a very good start for some people here on DU.
And even the Hisotry Channel is answering the call -great program Sunday night on Progressive activists in the 1930's (And earlier and later times too) on Sunday night. Written with the overview of American History by True Patriot Howard Zinn carefully kept to the fore.

16. Oh, I have learned many things. I've learned that 12AX7s are
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 03:41 PM by MineralMan
a little pricey and generally overrated for audio use, when I can get 12AU7s for a lot less if I need a double triode. In any case, I don't use vacuum tube equipment any longer. If I want that "vacuum tube" sound, I'll just add a little filter circuit to my solid state stuff. Nobody will know the difference.

I've learned that many people post nonsense on DU. I've learned that many of the things written here are of little value, and that they're often just screeds. I've learned that, sometimes, people come here to disrupt the forum. I'm sure you're not doing that, but it does happen.

I just keep learning things.

13. Calling lawmakers who are opposed to what you believe
may not work very often. But, calling and contacting those who are working hard to get progressive measures enacted is pretty rewarding. What works even better, though, is to work very hard to replace the ones who are unresponsive. We gained some ground in the Senate this past election. I find that my two Senators are quite responsive and appear to agree with my position. I worked very hard to get Al Franken elected, and it worked.

You'll do as you choose, of course. As for Bill Moyer, I've been watching him for decades.

But, it was still a good insult, there. You're at least part of a wit.

11. Don't be such a baby
You make us look the whiners the right wing claims we are.

None of that is so easy. And there are plenty of your fellow citizens disagreeing with you. That screed turns them off and gets them to turn to the Repukes, who sit there calmly.

15. Well, since you hide your location, which is your right to do,
we don't really know who your "elected leaders" might be. Did you work to elect the Senators in your state? Did you work on your representatives campaign? If so, I'm betting that you could contact them with some success.

You have three "elected leaders," two Senators and one House member from your state. Who are they? How have you tried to talk to them? Did you insult them as poorly as you insulted me? Are they Democrats?

You see, you're just posting nonsense here. I contact my Senators and my House member regularly, and meet with them from time to time when they're in the state. I campaigned for all three, and caucused for them. They respond to my letters and emails. I don't call them, because that's a poor way to communicate with a busy person.

Perhaps you're new to this political business. Perhaps you live in a state where Republicans are in the majority. If so, then I understand your frustration. Perhaps you've never bothered to contact your own "elected leaders." If so, I strongly encourage you to do so, and to work in the campaigns of candidates you feel will represent your views.

Posting whiny stuff on DU is no substitute for actually participating.

Good luck to you.

20. Isn't it interesting. The haters think all elected folks are
the enemy. I wonder how many contacted their own Senators today, instead of a futile effort to contact Lieberman?

21. Nobody even bothered to mention what is was that Moyer's guests said
They were calling for disruption, civil disobedience. They made the point that "leaders" historically don't lead, people lead and their leaders follow.
