I keep hoping for some kind of help. My insurance is now over $500 a month with a $1500 deductible. I pay more for insurance than my house or my car. Health insurance, car insurance, business insurance, house insurance all added together are my biggest expenses - by far. I pay so much for the premiums that I can't afford to see a doctor - at $100 a visit.
What a mess.

Is anyone in Congress even listening?

1. Listening?
Of course they are listening.

Listening to the insurance agents in the halls of congress.

And to the other health care corporates who are afraid of losing their million dollar salaries.

Best you can do is stay healthy or die quickly. Same as it ever was.

3. We're there, too. And our premium for just two of us is over $850...with crappy coverage.

5. let's all just cancel our insurance and just go the ER when we get the sniffles
I say "we", but I havent had insurance in 5+ years.

But what if everyone just canceled their policies and started overwhelming the ER's? Surely the hospital system would be overwhelmed and need to be bailed out by the government. Maybe then they'd have to create a public health system paid for strictly by taxes and "European" in nature.

8. I just got a statement from my insurance company on the cost of my recent surgery
and hospital stay--$32,000. Not including anesthesia and labs, of course. I don't know how I would even begin to pay for that myself.

6. Mine went up too and I only have catastrophic care
i.e. I dont have doctors visits or dental health or pharma coverage at all.
I changed my deductible to offset the costs.
in the meantime, I have a good friend who has degenerative bone disease who has no health care, and was told that if she doesnt get on medications at once, she only has 5 yrs to live. 2 yrs in a wheelchair.
she is working with a social worker now and has yet to find some help.

I give up on our elected officials.

the fatcats win everytime.
