Can Native American government recognize gay marriage on Indian land?

Can Native American government recognize gay marriage on Indian land?
I just had a thought that on Indian land Native Americans are allowed to have casino gambling even if it is illegal elsewhere in that state. I wonder if they would have the authority to give legal recognition to gay marriage even if it were illegal in the rest of the state.

Does anyone know?

2. I believe they can,
but IIRC both the Cherokee Nation and the Navajo Nation have legislated against gay marriage.
