Faith healing case to go to trial
Faith healing case to go to trial

OREGON CITY, Ore., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A judge in Oregon refused Tuesday to dismiss charges against a couple charged with causing their teenage son's death by failing to get medical treatment.

Lawyers for Jeff and Marci Beagley argued the couple believed they were providing adequate care for their son Neil, 16, because a social services worker talked to the boy two months before he died of a urinary tract blockage, The (Portland) Oregonian reported. At the time, the worker concluded no action needed to be taken.

The Beagleys had come to the attention of the state Department of Human Services after their granddaughter, Ava Worthington, died at the age of 15 months. Anonymous callers to the department said the couple had teenage children who might be at risk.

Clackamas County Presiding Judge Steve Maurer ruled the jury should decide if state employees entrapped the couple. They are scheduled for trial in January.

More will have to turn to faith healing if we don't get real health care reform passed...
