Bachmann Invokes 'Charge Of The Light Brigade'
At today's conservative "Code Red" rally against the health care bill, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) rallied the faithful with a fun historical and literacy reference: "It's the charge of the light brigade!"

We can only hope. She obviously didn't read about the outcome.

1. If they are Teabaggers, it's The Charge of the Dim Brigade

"Onward,
into the Valley of Fail,
Rode the 500 Republicon Chickenhawks.

Fail to the right of them
Fail to the left of them
Fail before them
Fail behind them
Fail in their souls

Onward,
into the Valley of Fail
Rode the Dim Chickenhawk Republicons

3. "The futility of the action..."
Free Clue for Chickenhawk Teabagging Republicon Homelanders: Read this famous observation about the real Charge of the Light Brigade -- which ended in abject defeat and disaster.

"The futility of the action and its reckless bravery prompted the French Marshal Pierre Bosquet to state "C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la guerre." ("It is magnificent, but it is not war.")

2. Outcome wasn't as bloody as the myth
Not saying it wasn't bad, just not a total disaster.

However, there are some rather interesting parallels which could be drawn. The charge was the result of extreme miscommunication between the British command and the bumbling ineptness of lower British officers (Captain Nolan) who pointed out the wrong target for the charge. (They were to prevent the capture of British Naval guns, not seize well fortified Russian guns.)

Another analogy was that Cardigan who led the charge didn't bother to look to his men during and after the charge even to the point of retiring to his yacht after the battle. Also, rather than question the stupidity of the orders as delivered (ie seek clarification), he was more concerned with Cpt. Nolan seizing command of the charge that he did the opposite and blindly executed them.

The whole charge was unnecessary.

4. The Historic FAIL of the Light Brigade

Bachman and the other Teabagging Homelanders have associated themselves with Epic Idiocy, and Epic Fail.

Not surprising. At all. In fact, altogether predictable.
