But if you're not the least bit disappointed with Obama, you may not be on the right discussion board.

8. Actually governing means
accomplishing something significant. Like Roosevelt or Johnson... not watered down meaningless, window dressing legislation. Not continuing bad policies of the previous administration. it means being bold at times and not always seeking the easiest compromise.

36. Thats a bogus list.
Ended torture?
No. Outsourced torture.
Renditions to countries that torture remains US Policy and continues unabated.

Credit Card Bill of Rights?
That bill was a sham that did NOTHING to cap interest rates or penalties.

Stimulus?
Mostly trickle down and ineffective "Tax Cuts" to appease Republicans.

Saving the World from a Great Depression?
Well, we don't know that.
What we DO know is that Obama took OUR money and gave it to his friends on Wall Street at 0% to lend BACK to us, The Working Class, at anywhere from 6% to 30%. Some deal.
Obama DID save the jobs of a few failed Wall Street Bankers, but did NOTHING to change the failed system or bring the WORST practices under control.

Here is another list that is closer to reality:
*WARS fully funded and EXPANDING. Bill sent to our children…...Mission Accomplished !

*Trillion Dollars given to friends and campaign contributors on Wall Street. No Strings Attached...Mission Accomplished!

*Military Spending INCREASED....Mission Accomplished!

*Trillion+ Dollars given to the Health Insurance Industry. Easily Avoidable, symbolic only strings attached....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Force all Americans to buy invisible products from For Profit Corporations who produce nothing tangible and create no wealth.....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Kill the possibility for a REAL "Public Option" or REAL Universal Health Care for at least another generation, and begin the “Entitlement Reform” defunding of Medicare (-$500 Billion)....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Block ANY REAL re-regulation of BIG BANKS and Credit Cards....Mission Accomplished!

*Protect the Bush War Criminals and Torturers from JUSTICE....Mission Accomplished.

*Throw the GBLTs under the bus and expand "faith based" initiatives....Mission Accomplished!

*Reinforce the worst Police State provisions of the Patriot Act....Mission Accomplished!

*Protect the very richest. Tell the Working Class that they CAN WILL compete with 3rd World Slave Labor for their jobs.....Mission Accomplished!

*EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act) killed in the crib....Mission Accomplished!

*More Anti-LABOR "Free Trade"....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Jobless Recovery....Mission Accomplished

*The Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party SHUT OUT of the Obama Administration…...Mission Accomplished!

*Accelerate the destruction of Public Education...Mission Accomplished!

*Bury next generation under such a debt burden that they will never be able to afford any social or economic programs that will benefit their Working Class....Mission Accomplished.

"By their works, you will know them"

The "screaming libs" have been giving all sorts of governing options: use reconciliation, issue executive orders, listen to voices OUTSIDE the military, audit the Fed, expand Medicare, and many more. It's the Obamabots that are worthless, insisting that the "change we can believe in" takes years and months to appear. They have been sold a dead parrot and have yet to see that it is not alive.

71. Here we go with the "screaming libs" epithets...
...you sure you're in the right place?

Look, we all understand that the Republicans are a bunch of lockstep obstructionists. Granted. But that does not explain the fact that our President caves in to their demands almost exclusively, while ignoring the liberal wing of his own party. That would be us "screaming libs".

Your name calling is out of line and adds nothing to the discussion.

Please cite examples of "screaming libs" who cannot govern? Well it may be hard to do so, since there are so few of them in a position to govern, partly because we have been pilloried in the press and in the public consciousness for so long that people take it as a given. In any case, all you are doing is making an assertion, please back it up.

And while you're at it, tell us who you think can govern, and why. Because we've sure had enough examples of intransigent rightwing idiots in government, and no one ever says they "can't govern".

He can make or break anyone standing in the way of REAL reform anytime he wants.

What do we get instead... Concessions to benefit Corporate America that hurt the American People.

One voice speaks out about how this is going to hurt the American People, and Obama decides it is time to speak out against that person. That is the bottom line about who stands for who.

56. Those who aren't interfering, should be ashamed beyond repair...
If "interfering" means daring to speak out because a healthcare reform bill has mutated into
a toothless tiger that will only enrich the health-insurance companies--then those who "interfere"
are heroes.

Healthcare reform is a major issue for Democratic voters and it used to be important to Democratic
politicians--before the corporations purchased our government.

Those lawmakers who go along with this healthcare bill--or sit silently as NO REFORM is passed--are
a bunch of traitors.

The only way to take back our democracy is to "interfere". It's too bad that we have so few
courageous politicians out there.

and others were all over the tv talking about how good the bill was just like others. They have been jumping on tv for months now telling us its good, its bad, when none of them don't even know whats in it. We still don't know whats in it because now it has to go back to the house, they have been playing bouncy ball with this bill for months now and cheering themselves as though they have really passed something. They all are full of shit and playing games!!!

They all are trying to benefit in somewhat because many of them are aligned with the insurance companies in one way or the other. Howard Dean should shut up when he doesn't know what is in the bill one way or the other. Just because Howard Dean says it doesn't make it correct, didn't he tell us last week it was a good bill? So I guess he is correct again.A bunch of bullshit!!

What is a Democrat that stands WITH the Insurance Industry and Corporate America?

By the time this SHIT Bill get's to Obama's desk, NOTHING will be in it for the American People, other than oppressive laws against the American People.

They DON'T need this alleged "reform" to regulate the Insurance Industry, with regards to pre-existing conditions and price controls, but they do need it to FORCE the American People to bend over and take it up the ass from the Insurance Industry!

62. This Schroedinger's bill bullshit is really lame.
And frankly, I think it's just a method of trying to shut people up. I suppose when the contents of the bill are known, after it has been signed, you'll tell people that what's done is done and that they should have complained earlier.

Nobody has seen the bill, but since they've spent over half a year on the public record adding things and stripping things out of the negotiation, it is not being intellectually honest to act as though someone like Dean, who has been paying close attention to this, don't know anything about what's going to be in the bill.

32. As a Liberal(neither screaming nor crying), I don't always...
agree with Dean. In this particular case, he is correct. This bill needs to be killed, scrapped, held under water until it drowns.

It is probably a worse bill(for us all)than have been Medicare Part D and Biden's Bankruptcy bill, both of which are terrible.

The trite old saying:"Half a loaf is better than none" only applies to loaves of bread.

For those who buy into what scraps you are thrown, then you deserve the projected results. GIGO rules apply to important bills.

53. Obama thinks he can handle the crime syndicate...he can't.
Obama wants to try diplomacy and consensus building with this bloodthirsty, warmongering cabal of
evil sociopaths.

So, he's trying to be reasonable with them...give them what they want. Obama figures maybe later, they'll
see what a good guy he is, and that they will understand when Obama says, "Ok, I compromised, now it's your turn."

It's a complete joke.

Howard Dean sees this, and he's calling it out. Dean is a hero as far as I'm concerned.

Obama's upset because Dean is pointing out how sickening this non-reform reform bill really is--and what a windfall it
is for the insurance companies. He's damn well trying to do something about it--by talking.

Obama doesn't like it--tough shit I say.

Either Obama is in on the fix or he's kow towing to these corporatist bastards. Either way--"We The People" lose.

Thank you Howard Dean for having the guts to speak out. I'm sure the corporatist crime syndicate will try incredibly hard
to make your life a living hell now.

60. Furious with Howie eh? Well I do know that I'm pretty damn furious with Obama
and I don't give a flying fuck that's he is mad at Dean.

So he's mad at Dean? Well he can get in line behind me because I'm mad that I voted for him, worked so damn hard for him, gave money to him and trusted him to do the right thing by us and he's been a colossal failure on everything that truly matters to ordinary people who aren't Wall Street Bankers or Health Insurance Lobbyists.

70. You're not the only one...
...I am in 100% agreement with your post.

I am sick to death of the constant stream of anti-progressive BS that emanates from the media, from Congress critters and from the Obama White House. It is unacceptable and odious. Who the hell does he think helped him win the office? Who the hell does he think worked for him, cheered him on?

And now we get messages every day about how "the left" is overreaching, "the liberal blogs" are out of line, it's "the liberals" who are not happy with the hollow shell that is left of the health care bill. It is telling that these pronouncements never, ever address the actual issues head-on.

Hey President Obama, why don't you try standing up for the people for a change? And really, could you spare us your pathetic placating rhetoric that simply cedes power to the Republicans and the right wing of the Democratic Party? Especially since we are finding out that what you say behind closed doors is somewhat at odds with your public pronouncements.

I would have had some sympathy for him, given how difficult health care reform is, if I had seen any sign at all that this Administration was fighting the good fight. Instead, to cite but one example, he cuts a deal with Big Pharma and then ties the hands of anyone who would try to get some kind of price controls on drugs. And he refuses to use the bully pulpit to affect the legislative process; rather, he takes a "hands off" approach that simply encourages the obstructionists and ties the hands of those who are really committed to reform.

From where I sit, it looks like this Administration is in the pocket of Big Bidness, just like the last one and the one before it.

Pathetic and infuriating!

78. The Cheneys are irrelevant. Dean is not. And he may have thrown a firebomb into the process.
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 05:22 PM by quiet.american
I've strongly supported Howard Dean since the days before he even officially announced his run for the presidency.

I don't discount his arguments here.

But I don't agree with his tactics in this case.

Politics is politics, and he of all people should know that this game is not over. On the one hand, Dean is all over the place saying "kill the bill" and wait until Obama's second term.

On the other hand, he can't be stupid or naive enough to think Obama will get a second term without healthcare reform and along with that, Dean is out there adding fuel to the fire of making Democrats feel demoralized about this whole process.

This is the primary difference between Democrats and Republicans. Republicans simply don't eat their own.

If he embraced Dean and criticized Cheney, then Hannity or Lieberman might say something bad about him. I think Obama is distancing himself from his roots. Unfortunately.
