Will there be two parties that come out of the ashes of the upcoming series of self-inflicted electoral defeats, or will handing government back to Republicans -- again -- finish off America in ways that push the country far beyond any kind of "politics" as usual?

that we need four viable parties ... from left to right, Progressive/Liberal, Democratic, Republican, and Teabagger/Conservative. That way, all factions would feel like they have a say in who gets elected instead of having their candidates picked for them. In a presidential election, perhaps there could be a runoff between the two top votegetters to assure a majority rather than a plurality. I personally would like to see the Progressives go head-to-head with the Teabaggers. The Democratic and Republican parties seem to be shams at the moment, anyway.

2. Our "winner take all" system guarentees a 2 party system at best
You'd have to change our system of government to a parlimentary sytle if you want multiple party system.

5. Fascism. The GOP. Oh, why be redundant?
Seriously, when reform fails, a polity may turn really, really mean.
