We're so fucked...
Edited on Sat Apr-21-07 08:16 PM by Texas Explorer
Avarice and stupidity have combined to seal our fate. Global warming, peak oil, dying oceans, and wars will pave the way to the future. I'm so afraid for my young daughters and my step-kids.

Humans! What a dissappointing waste of intelligence.

5. It didn't really take all that long, either. From
the dark ages to today. Not long in the history man.

11. It is everyone's fault; specially those that have lived over the last two centuries...........
human greed and over procreation are dominant factors leading to our demise.

8. avarice and pride are my two favorite deadly sins.
Just about all of the problems today that our government is responsible for can be traced back to greed and the idea that they are better than everybody else.

Avarice will bring us all down.

9. And 'round and 'round the wheel turns.
This is history.

All great nations and empires eventually expire. Why would anybody think the United States would turn out any different? Is it because of hideous pride and arrogance? Come back in 200 years. The US will be fragmented into several constituent nations.

10. Nah. We're gonna pull through.
I'm not giving you a Pollyanna response. Your claims of the severities we face are absolutely legitimate and I'm with you on all of them, but feel we have resources, largely untapped, in hearts and minds, to confront the crises. Electing a Democrat to the White House and increasing our Congressional majorities would be a solid first step.

Just a couple thoughts from a heavy-weight:

"While admitting to the worst of all possible worlds, we must behave as if we could be the best of all possible people." (Peter DeVries)

I love your avatar. Perfect.

14. As much as I'd like to believe what you
are saying, I don't think it is possible to eliminate greed.

1) To fix global warming, we would have to sacrifice energy.
2} To fix the oceans, we would have to sacrifice seafood.
3) To delay peak oil, we would have to sacrifice our SUVs.
4) To eliminate war, we would have to sacrifice hate....and averice...and a whole host of other human traits.

Humans sacrificing for the common good?

Nope.

Bush and Cheney have won? You won't fight back? The Iraq war means nothing?

16. Look at what we have done in a little over 200 years
We have gone from killing to take over this land called america and then kept going to make life easier but at a great sacrifice . We had to have some idea that the course we were headed woould have led to this horror we have now . If not then we were blind and just went on with the attitude that we are fine at certain points and lets worry about it if the day ever comes . Well the day has come and yet many still ignore or try to play the one side against the other .

I have no real sense of how this mess will ever be fixed or any real hope that man will change world wide enough to make the changes needed to try to even slow this madness down . We have learned nothing about our mistakes during our history let alone from old past history .

I fear many people will resist change to the point where change will not accure , human nature only seems to react when things hit them square in the face .
