I had high hopes and stayed above the fray for the first six months or so, hoping that things were being set in motion to effect real "change" in this country. After being enamored with the guy and the other candidates that were riding on the "Hope" and "Change" train, I was sure that things would be different. I debated Republican colleagues on his merits and stood up for him - and now they look at me and grin and say "Told ya so".

But the breaking point for me was the war escalation and the final nail in the proverbial coffin has been health care. I don't see myself coming back onto the reservation after this week. Probably the biggest slap in the face to good, loyal Democrats that I've seen and it just keeps getting worse.

After all the machinations to get the regulatory bullshit through in the current bill, they come back with a simple reconciliation bill that allows anybody of any age to buy into Medicare.

Anything other than that will be an epic fail.

This is exactly what we need. I would only add that the buy-in rates should be on a sliding scale based upon income, perhaps from ~25% actual cost for low-income earners to 200% actual cost for the very wealthy.

Not that I'm holding my breath or anything.

But I do think that I will call Senator Kay Hagan's office tomorrow and ask her to do exactly this.

Even some of the centrist Dems that I know are appalled. The anger within our Democratic circles is palpable and we have a very important and difficult election for all offices next year.

With the way things are going, next year is going to be a proverbial blood purge for the Dems in this state. Some say it's exactly what we need so we can reform and actually get a competent party together in this state, because we certainly don't have one now. So I guess that's one silver lining to the President and our Congressional Dems selling us out to corporate interests and spitting in our faces.

As for the wars and everything else, I can't venture a guess. But I do know the Clinton years were the most prosperous for the U.S. in my lifetime.

With my guy, Kucinich, I don't know exactly where the economy would stand, but I imagine the bank/auto bailout never would have happened, and I'm certain labor would once again finally have a voice in Washington. I also have no doubt we would have completely withdrawn from both Iraq and Afghanistan long before now.

If only Americans would vote for substance instead of style... But, sadly, no amount of wishing will cure the "American Idol" generation of their gnat-like attention span, nor their unfathomable shallowness.

-The Unemployment Rate in my State......15.1%, he has YET TO ADDRESS anything in the state of Michigan with the highest Unemployment Rate in the Nation. YET, we pulled (Democrats that is) this state to Blue, just for him to make Change. Remember, we (in Michigan)voted for McCain before and probably would have done it again if it was not for the Grassroots effort and McCain pulling Palin on the Ticket. If McCain has picked Romley as V.P., Michigan and its' 17 electoral votes would have been lost.
