John Birch Society to Co-Sponser CPAC
This was posted earlier with a link to the John Birch Society press release, but it got no play except to say that it was irrelevant. So, I thought I'd repost it with a more straightforward subject line and a link to a news article rather than JBS.

The 51-year-old ultra-conservative group, once ostracized by the right, is co-sponsoring the 2010 Conservative Political Action Conference.

JBS will have a double booth with half dedicated to offering educational and promotional materials and the other half housing a TV studio that will stream live video from the booth and broadcast onto JBS LibertyNewsNetwork.tv, a website that will feature archived JBS video and live video streams.

Here's a partial list of speakers at next years conference along with some quotes about the conference. Far from being irrelevant, you'll note a few names on this list that will play a major role in 2010 and 2012.

Invited Speakers Include:
Amb. John Bolton*, Andrew Breitbart*, Herman Cain*, Ann Coulter*, Hon. Newt Gingrich, Doug Hoffman*, Hon. Mike Huckabee, Gov. Bobby Jindal, David Keene*, Wayne LaPierre*, Mark Levin*, Rush Limbaugh, Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell, Hon. Sarah Palin (Invited, Not Confirmed), Rep. Ron Paul, Gov. Tim Pawlenty*, Hon. Mitt Romney*, Marco Rubio*, and many more!

“CPAC has consistently over the years championed those ideas that have made America great: limited government, free enterprise, low taxes and a strong national defense.”

- Vice President Dick Cheney

“.. A showcase of the heart and soul of American conservatism”

- Los Angeles Times

“ CPAC is the preeminent yearly gathering of conservative activists.”

- The Washington Post

1. The John Birchers are pretty mild in comparison these days
Compared to the Minutemen, right wing gun militias, TeaBaggers, Birthers, the John Birchers are practically moderate and mainstream.

2. Damning by faint praise, that is ...

The Birchers however have been courting the these groups pretty heavily since summer. A lot of crossover.

As you imply, this is the heart of the Republican party now, whereas it was once it was so fringe no respectable Republican would touch them.

4. That may depend on Ms. Palin ...

If she does show up, there will be cameras -- lots of them -- even if she has to wheel them in herself.
