Jesse Ventura makes Yale librarian’s quote-of-the-year list.

“You give me a water board, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I’ll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders.” With that line, former Gov. Jesse Ventura cemented a place for himself alongside U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, rapper Kanye West, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on The Yale Book of Quotations editor’s list of the top ten quotes of the year.

Ventura may round out the list by at number 10, but his is one of only two quotes that Yale librarian and editor Fred R. Shapiro picked from the first half of the year. And Ventura demonstrated his ticket on the vanguard of the zeitgeist is still good. His somewhat dated reference to the Sharon Tate murders, which likely meant little to many who heard it, was made more current by the recent arrest of film director Roman Polanksi (in Europe, on a separate conviction), who was Tate’s husband at the time of her death.

edit to add murder in title.

1. Ventura's reference to that 40 year old murder case is more clumsy than anything else-
considering that the case was irrefutably SOLVED long ago. I'd have referenced the Black Dahlia murder or the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.

3. Actually, that's why the quotation works
It's precisely the point that we KNOW for a fact who committed the crime - and it wasn't Dick Cheney. The whole point is that torture can make people say something manifestly untrue.

4. No, it's not...
In case you missed the point, the point was that with torture, you can make anyone confess to anything... ANYTHING... they will confess just to stop the torture.

Don't believe me? Come visit me for a day, I'll have *you* confessing to plotting 9-11 within an hour...

7. Actually Jesse, I'll give you a water board, dick cheney* and I don't give a shit what he confesses.

Just water board him. Take as long as you like. In fact, work to see how long you can prolong the "moment."
