I'm sure the mandates were to insure that people had to buy
the crappola that the insurance companies had to offer. Then the public option, which briefly was about being able to buy into a Medicare style government operated insurance, as part of the exchange, was sent to the graveyard, but the mandates remained. They knew people would refuse to buy into the insurance exchange if the public option wasn't there, so they covered their asses.

I guess they aren't aware yet that a lot of people are willing to defy them, like KO said he would last night, and still not pay for it even if they have to go to jail in the long run. I think there is going to be a real revolution and civil unrest if this bill passes. This isn't like mandated car insurance where you can choose not to drive and take the bus instead. This is real government totalitarianism and I believe the public on both ends of the issue, including the tea baggers, aren't going to go for it.

3. I've been telling people this was going to happen for the past 2 years.
I said we're going to get a mandate with no public plan. Over and over. People didn't believe me.

I really hate to say "I told you so" but...

4. I'm in your company and I got a lot
rudeness directed towards me by the pro-Obama and Blue Dog faction here because of it.

Yeah, I can say, "I told you so" too.

7. You were both spot on
for all the good it does now to let you know.

Cleita, I have read you for years, sometimes it is like you are reading my mind.

I feel angry and sad and numb about this debacle.

I will go to jail too, that is absolutely despicable.

Thank you both for stellar efforts here to educate us all.

I say, :yourock:

9. Rare appreciation is very
much appreciated by this "health care for all" warrior.

Thanx.

8. you are allowed to say 'I told you so' when you told us so... fyi

that is the point - so we listen earlier and better to voices that might not be repeating the things we already believe - opening up minds & hearts is important

10. We had every reason to believe that Obama would oppose the mandate.
He ran this ad against Hillary.

We were lied to. We trusted him. Thus, you were right, and we were wrong.

11. I forgot about that.
There seem to be a lot of campaign promises broken. I just heard on the radio that the unions are having a meeting to decide policy on this issue. Since they were the biggest backers of President Obama in the election, it may not be good news for him. I still like him, but I hope he wakes up and ditches those DLCers and Goldman Sachs alumni from his administration.

6. It's because the courts decided that prisoners had Eighth Amendment
rights to it. Why don't we?

12. I think that Supremes' decision means we do all have a right to it too.
Some interest group should file a class action on behalf of all of us. I'd love to see what would happen.

13. If there is a law firm willing to do it, it could be a back door way
of getting Medicare extended to everyone. I'm sure there are lawyers here who will inform us of why it can't happen.
