Move over George W. Bush. The left has a new nemesis for fund-raising: Senator Joseph Lieberman, the Connecticut Democrat-turned-independent.

On Thursday, a spokesman for the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org said that it had raised more than $1 million from its network of online donors in less than two days in an advertising campaign against Mr. Lieberman.

Many on the left have held a grudge against Mr. Lieberman ever since he stood by President George W. Bush and Senator John McCain over Iraq, and their opposition probably cost him the Democratic primary during his re-election bid in 2006. In addition, he rankled many Democrats by campaigning for Mr. McCain during the 2008 presidential cycle.

But the current MoveOn campaign against him was started in retaliation for his apparently successful effort to force Senate Democrats to strip from their health care bill a plan to sell access to Medicare to those over 55.
