"I mean, if a mandate was the solution, we can try that to solve homelessness by mandating everybody to buy a house. The reason they don’t buy a house is they don’t have the money. "

4. The mandate is NOT a solution to health care's affordability problem, and is not meant to be.
That's why there are subsidies--nine hundred billion dollars worth of them.

10. How about you don't need to buy a house if you don't want to live in one.
And you don't have to purchase health care insurance if you choose in advance not to ever use the health care system. You should be able to sign a waver where you agree not to buy insurance but also not to except medical help even in emergencies unless you pay in advance and have the money up front.

11. How about even some market based choices and price controls
so we're not utterly sheep to the slaughter?

We get to shop car insurance but with health we just take what we get and pay what they charged.

14. Hey, great idea.. Can I do that for my kids too, sign a waiver?
That would save me a bunch of money..

I'm sure you wouldn't mind seeing a kid die in agony outside the emergency room.

After all, it would be his parent's fault..

A crappily built, overpriced McMansion.

The builders won't make enough money on the little crackerboxes..

And then we can pass a law that says you have to keep it heated and cooled all the time, that will stop people from ever freezing to death in the winter or dying of heat stroke in the summer.

Edited for speling.

23. My mandate is that
Harry Reid grow a pair, and that Obama admits that he is nothing more than a paid shill for the Health Insurers & Big Pharma, Wall Street fat cats, and the legions of war criminals from the previous administration.

25. Most people have a roof over their heads
Renting is an option. People can stay with friends or relatives. Whereas friends or relative might not be able to heal an illness and there's no "renting" model.

But if you give people money for housing - from the government - see Section 8 - then it is to be used for housing. That's the point. Money for housing, use it to buy housing.

The true outrage would be the windfall to the construction industry and landlords. :sarcasm: Better to leave people homeless than have that.
