Idea: DU strategy group
I've been wanting to propose this for some time. It could be a place to discuss strategy in the abstract. We could talk about classic works about strategy (think The Art of War, The Thirty-Six Strategems, The Prince, The 48 Laws of Power), regardless of particular issues.

I shelved this idea a few times because I couldn't think of a way to keep it at the level of intellectual rigor I'd want from a DU group like that, but I was thinkinG about it again and thought maybe it would work if there was a restriction that you couldn't talk about current events, only events that were twenty or a hundred years old. That might keep people from arguing what is and isn't good strategy based on what their particular issue is.

I also had an idea of starting a "book club"; no I wouldn't sell books, but I'd pick one and say let's read it together for like two months.

Would anybody be interested in this?

2. I like the idea of a Book Club - but to Co-Author Books
GOP has no shortage of dis-information rolling off the printing presses

5. william cooper is a far right militia type "black helicopters" loon.
or i should say *was* since he was killed in a shootout with sheriff's deputies in Arizona after september 11th.

the dude was fucking NUTS. he believed the government was in league with space aliens.

his wiki entry:

"Milton William "Bill" Cooper (May 6, 1943 - November 5, 2001) was an American writer, shortwave broadcaster and conspiracy theorist. Cooper came to public awareness in the late 1980s when he promulgated a number of theories dealing with the assassination of President Kennedy and alleged links between the United States government and various extra-terrestrial races."

7. Some people may start late.
Also, it's easy to spend two months discussing a book, even if the first reading doesn't take that long.
