Ford to build lithium battery in Michigan
"Ford Chairman Bill Ford told Local 4's Guy Gordon Friday afternoon that his company has chosen Michigan as the production site for the company's new lithium ion battery systems.

The battery pack will power Ford's new plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles, which will be introduced over the next several years."

2. I dunno, but they damn well better hire locals, and not bring in outside labor
or foreign workers.

4. I pray it brings more jobs than the GEMA plant brought.
Back in 2004 GEMA came to Michigan and it's highly successful, but the problem was that it only employs 250 people.

Over 15,000 applied for those jobs back then. Things were already getting really bad in Michigan back then.

3. Bless the Ford Motor Company.
If they will go back to the concept of their founder that companies should pay a good wage (with jobs in the USA) so that American employees can actually purchase the company's product, it will go a long way toward helping out this economy.

Now, in-so-far as Henry Ford's anti-Jewish tendencies... THAT they don't need to resurrect.

5. I welcome any good news for Michigan
I saw people here sneering at 155 jobs yesterday, but we need every job we can get. Good on Ford. Good for Michigan.

7. Good news indeed for our neighbors to the north!
Northern Ohio does good when Michigan manufacturing does good.

I hope this is sign of more to come.

8. There has been a lot of good news
In 2008 and 2009 we received a lot of good news but it was over-shadowed by the auto crisis. We have gotten a lot of battery commitments, including A123 Systems (which will bring 14,000 jobs here). GM is building the battery for the Volt here too.

MI unemployment has stabilized around 15% and even gone down a few times (now it's 14.7%). I hope the trend continues but I don't want to get too optimistic.
