It is quite simple how the Democrats can get out of the situation they are in

Get the bill to committee, add in a public option or Medicare buy-in, along with controlling Insurance companies charging whatever they want, then bring the final bill back for a vote

If the bill doesn't pass, because those that voted it down, do not want healthcare for Americans, use that as a campaign issue in 2010 against them

and then move on

I thought about that too, but having to get 60 votes after it comes out of committee prohibits a lot of that.

Nebraska's constituents don't want healthcare reform and oppose it 2-1. Arkansas's constituents do not want healthcare reform and oppose it 2-1. The list goes on.

You keep thinking that just because you really, really want a better bill, that you can actually get a better bill. You don't differentiate between what you want and what you can ever get. We will NEVER have 60 progressive Senators just based on how Senate seats are apportioned. You just don't seem to understand the word NEVER.

11. By State is certainly the best answer. When the people of those States

are very happy with their HC options, those without it will demand it. I still want to see a HC bill passed this year. I realize it's not close to what everyone here wants, but I think it's important for the currently uninsured, and to smack the ins. guys for the criminal things they are doing, like pre-existing conds and kicking people out when they cost too much! The other reason I want to see it is for our President! I honestly velieve he's doing everything he can in the best way as he sees it. If something passes NOW, enough of it will take effect before 2010 & 2012 to convince people they're better off than they were before!

After that, each State should begin working on a program unique to their State, and just maybe in the future, if there are enough sane people around, they can pick the most successful programs and implement them on a Federal level.
