6. Expecting a total of 2-4" of white stuff today

so it appears I have dodged the proverbial bullet. The National Weather Service has been known to get it wrong, recalling occasions when I've gotten 8" or more of 'flurries.'

Had to run an errand earlier this morning, and it wasn't easy getting up my driveway to the street. The car is now parked on the street, as I don't believe I'd be able to get out of my driveway again - at least not without conducting a massive digging project.

9. I somehow got into my office and am awaiting patients...

since it isn't a commuting day in Philly, they didn't do the roads real well and I literally slid right thru a red light, with my horn blaring to let cars know I was coming...no way would I be able to stop or steer. And I was driving in 1st gear!

It's really intensifying here but I have a couple patients who live in Center City and are coming no matter what. I gave the staff the 'day off' but this is going to kill retail...if I owned a store downtown, I'd probably start filing papers, since at least 40% of the sales here for Xmas are in the last few days 'before'.

I understand they're running big specials on Tiger Woods items....

11. Warm and cozy for now in VA

It started snowing last night and is still snowing. My son, husband, the cats and I are on the bed. Hubby is on his laptop, son is watching "Fairly Odd Parents", cats are standing guard and the dog was barking at the snow. We are putting off going outside to shovel, but our son can't wait to go out to play in the snow :-).

13. Cozy enough, but not too wam (yet)

We've got no electricity, no running water (aside from the stream outside), and no furnace at this point. However, I just lit the fireplace, the stream water is probably clean enough to drink as is (though we'll still boil it), and I have enough backup electricity to last for several days (but not enough to run large appliances). We'll survive. :)

Oh, and I'm very near the top of a mountain in Western NC.

So it's nothing major for me, I'm from NW CT...6" is a flurry and nothing more. People don't even slow down from highway speeds for 6" where I'm from. For the rest of my area (between Annapolis and DC) it's a catastrophe...I'm talking to people I know from down here and they're freaking the f**k out hardcore. Chicken Littles. I'm going to go play in traffic now and go sledding on a dining-hall tray.

The dogs are having a blast in it. I'm about to bake holiday cookies. Got groceries and plenty of beer. Life's good.

22. I wish

The 3 hour train from Paris to Köln took 6 hours instead of 3 last night, and 3 other trains were canceled, so
my train was overflowing like a Tokyo subway train. You couldn't even make it as far as the toilet.

Today, my daughter was flying in from New York via Paris. She landed in Paris at around 8 AM. It is now 3:45 PM
and she is still there. Her 55 minute flight to Düsseldorf is still on the ground in Paris.

Not fun.

23. We've only got about 3" so far - another 5" or so expected.

My wife and three daughters all just left for karate demo team practice. The Montana won't have any trouble in this stuff.

24. Checking in from Virginia

We got about 14 inches of snow last night. Our Dobie ventured out this morning to do her morning business and the snow was up to her butt. She didn't squat as normal, she just stood there and did it. Poor baby...she's 13 years old, arthritic and just doesn't do snow anymore. Our new 3 month old golden retriever/yellow lab pup won't even venture out in it because it's so deep. I was hoping to get some cute pictures of her in the snow today but all you would see is the snow. I may venture out later and get some shots of our wolves. They're having a ball in it and there's just something about seeing wolves in snow...an absolutely gorgeous sight to behold.

All in all, we're snug, warm, and have plenty of food to get us through. We're just hoping the power stays on for the next few days.
