CARROLLTON, OH —A request by the mother of a 6-year-old girl to receive a $30 reward for turning in her daughter for shoplifting has been referred to the corporate office of Discount Drug Mart.
The girl was taken to the police station on Wednesday by Carrollton Police Chief Ron Yeager at the request of the mother, who was frustrated because similar incidents had occurred previously, she told police. The girl reportedly had taken tattoo stickers from a greeting card at the store on Canton Rd. on Wednesday, and the woman asked store personnel to call police.
Since this type of incident had happened before, the mother asked Yeager to take the child to the police station in an attempt to stop the behavior. The child rode in the back of the police car to the station. The father of the child was notified and the child was released back to the mother’s custody.
On Thursday, the mother returned to Discount Drug and asked for the reward. Nathan Deal, manager of Discount Drug Mart in Carrollton, said that the request for the reward and the information regarding the incident was forwarded to corporate offices and he had not heard a response yet.
