Prediction thread: What are the Republican talking points about the HCR bill going to be?
Let loose your inner Repub, tell us what you think they are going to say about the Democratic health care reform bill.

We need to know this in order that we can arrange our own talking points in opposition to those the Republicans will be screaming 24/7/365 with the volume set at 11 on their Mighty Wurlitzer.

2. You'll be able to lift some of them right off this board...
...apart from the Nazi stuff, they'll often be the same as those of the progressive left -- mandate, jail, etc.

7. The bill is big enough and complex enough I don't think anyone truly has a complete handle on it..
The Canada Health Care Act is but 14 pages and it's in both English and French so it is in reality only 7 pages long.

Easy to understand, hard to bullshit about..

This bill is hard to understand, easy to bullshit about..

Personally I think it's as long as it is in order to have the maximum number of loopholes for insurance companies.. Given that they at least in part wrote it that's not really so hard to believe.

8. Well I posted this in Cali's thread.
I can just see the Repukes playing up to the American trait of detesting being mandated to do anything. How many times have you heard the dumb saying "You only have to do two things in life, die and pay taxes" Cue in Repuke saying "And if the Democrats have their way, you'll have to pay for your health care whether you want it or not" Stupid I know but how much of the electorate thinks past the end of their noses.

9. The Republicans *will have their cake and get to eat too,
(disclaimer I have no idea what the logic is behind that saying, it seems to me if you have a cake, you should be able to eat the damn thing!)

The Republicans will claim that President Obama went back on his campaign pledge by instituting a "back-door tax" on those people making less than 200-250k, you can expect the corporate media to carry Republican Water on that point. In public the Republicans will cry crocodile tears over the "back-door tax" mandate burden, but in private they will be ecstatic because their natural base; "health" insurance and big pharma corporations are being rewarded with mega profits and assured monopoly, while the natural Democratic Base; that being the people after watching their salaries remain stagnant for well over a decade will pay a heavy price.

The Republicans know they will regain power in 2010 and probably 2012 and if anything they will either turn Democratic lemons in to pissade, while rewarding corporations with even more power or they will slightly reverse course; thereby gaining popularity with the average American; until they fall asleep again; thereby allowing the Republicans to rape and plunder the nation at will and the cycle might repeat it self.

As Bill Maher said, as the Democrats have drifted rightward, the Republicans have drifted into the funny farm.

12. If the bill is killed they will declare total victory and claim it's Obama's Waterloo...
And they will stick to that story until we are unable to eat for all the nausea.

OTOH, that seems to be what some DUers want.

But I do applaud your efforts at setting up counter-talking points in advance of the onslaught.

Hekate

13. I wish they hadn't, but the Dems put themselves in this position..
I think it's kind of like the old saw about a good lawyer never asks a question in court to which he doesn't already know the answer.. A good politician never introduces legislation that can turn around and shoot smoking holes in his feet.

I think the Dems have shot themselves in both feet with this legislation, if they weren't sure they could do it right they never should have started.

15. So? Do you care more about Obama than you care about the most vulnerable Americans?
If the president had shown just an OUNCE of leadership on this issue we WOULD NOT BE IN THIS POSITION.

If he had backed the public option more strenuously we wouldn't be here.

If he had promoted single payer AT ALL we wouldn't be here.

If he had FULFILLED HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISE and put the negotiations with big PhRMA on CSPAN we wouldnt be here.

If he had shown the political strength to stand up to folks like Baucus, then Snowe, then Liebermann we wouldn't be here.

Just like Napoleon the only person that Obama can blame for his waterloo is HIMSELF.

17. Oh you meant to imply something OTHER than "pass this bill or Obama fails"? Because
That's EXACTLY what it sounded like you were saying. Don't try to cop out of your pithy little attempt at trying to frighten progressives into line by putting reminding them what's at stake.

I'm sorry, but some of us happen to regard our principles higher than the ambitions of a party that has UTTERLY ABANDONED OUR CAUSE.

You may find nothing abhorrent about being more concerned about "Obama's Waterloo" than 30 million of our poorest countrymen being FORCED into indefinite servitude to the exact same insurance industry that has raped our healthcare system into oblivion, but some of us don't mind watching our flawed leaders take it on the chin whenever they end up in bed with the country's worst whores.

When the first packet from the government arrives saying pick your insurance or face a fine, the price tag will do all the speaking for them.

19. Damn, you posted it before I could. They don't need to say anything. Just eat popcorn and enjoy...
... the gift wrapped number of seats we are forfeiting by passing this.

It would be nice of them if they would send a Thank You card I guess.
