1. That's a lot of snow......

And here in southeast Michigan, we've had our first snow of the season - nearly half....an inch.

3. It's insane, isn't it?

DC & points south get clobbered, yet places that traditionally get tons of snow before Thanksgiving get off easy. I got about 1½" from that storm, which is weak sauce for my location & season.

2. We're stuck in the house.

Funny thing is that half the time they predict a storm like this it's nothing. Stores are crazy with the pack up like it's the end of the world...and in 2 days everything is back to somewhat normal.

Wonder if anything is open today.

24. Meh...It's not that bad. Home Depot was open...mostly SUVs on the cleared main roads.

All driving like wussies. My little Nissa Versa passed up more than a few.

It wasn't so bad once out of the sidestreets.\.

I'm about to go nuts - the main road about 1/4 mile from my house is plowed and cars are moving...freedom is so close, but I can't get to it.

6. We had 18" last week and it's still plenty of fun

7. We got 28 inches. We dug some paths and put out plastic bins for the feral cats

and had to fill up the bird feeders twice on Saturday. We did out Christmas cookie baking and finished off the surplus beer around the house. Outside we could hear sirens almost non-stop.

10. My house backs up to the woods (I'm in Burke, Va about 15 miles from DC)

This year in our backyard we saw deer, possums, raccoons, turtles, foxes, feral cats, squirrels, flying squirrels, chipmunks, moles and voles (which are unfortunately the favorite gift from feral cats), and over 200 types of birds.

Backyard looks beautiful, but I haven't seen any of our critters out - raccoons, chipmunks, etc. Lots of little footprints in the yard though.

14. I see more birds at the feeder in big snow storms

More types than I normally see. One my favorites is the cardinals.

They know how we often feel in Cleveland when we get lake effect. (The irony? We have maybe an inch on the ground from this one.)

My favorites are the pictures of Christmas lights shining through snow on bushes--the way the glow of the colored lights paints the snow. I think there are few sights in the world more beautiful.

22. Same here (Florida) - I'd be under my electric blanket waiting for warmer temperatures!

What is funny is that I just found pictures from the "Great Southern Snowstorm of 1988" in Tallahassee. We got enough snow and cold enough temperatures that it stayed as a dusting over everything. I think it got down to 8 F. here. The water pipes from the well to the house froze, even though we had left water running. Our water troughs for the horses had six inches of solid ice and we had to chop holes in it several times a day for the horses to drink. It got so cold, the asphalt road surfaces popped chunks out, leaving large holes that took a couple of years to repair.

We were downstate and drove back to take care of the farm. Between Gainesville and Perry, the snow had turned to sleet and coated the trees with ice. It was so pretty but kind of scary for a native Floridian to see in her state. The heater in our van wasn't working, and we almost got frostbite in the drive home.

I'm a wimp - I could not live with those temperatures and snow every year. Two or three times in a lifetime are plenty for me!
