How is it possible to communicate with Senator Ben Nelson?
We know that he is from Nebraska, the land of farmers. We know that they are as honest as the day is long and they have a general distrust of big government. That is just how they are. They are hard-working country folk. They believe in doing what is right.

Senator Nelson is one of these folks. He did what he thought was right for his state. He feels that is his job. And we cannot totally disagree with him in that respect.

However, there is a time to fight for your state and there is a time to fight for your country. That time has arrived for Senator Nelson. It is time he look closely at the public option in the House bill. We hope his heart will guide him in the right direction..

3. The rest of the country doesn't vote for him
This is actually why it's good that most senators have presidential ambitions. At least when they are thinking about the possibility of running for President they are at least sometimes thinking about how they might appeal to a larger electorate. Unfortunately, Nelson isn't one of those with such ambitions. Unless you are a Nebraska voter or contribute money to him, he doesn't care what you have to say because you have no influence over his ability to hold onto his power.

4. Hah!
Have you ever driven through Nebraska? There is hardly even good farm or range land there. I don't know why people still live there, but I would venture that for lack of funds Senator Nelson is getting big bunches of campaign funds from the tele-evangelists who get money from old people in other states who have some Social Security they can send in. We need to identify good liberal candidates in that state and give them the money that would otherwise come from corporate or religious institutions so they can fight the Ben Nelsons. I knew people from Omaha and they were liberal in thought if not voter registration.

6. Most senators only communicate with their constituents.
That's kinda how it works, sadly. Ben Nelson doesn't need to care about what I think about anything, because he doesn't have to work for my vote (different state).

You can, however, contact your own congresspeople and encourage them to talk with Nelson, but there's no way of knowing how well that would work. It really depends on who you're saddled with. Nelson's job (as he probably sees it) is to get re-elected in a mostly-conservative state. Reminds me of Bayh in that respect. You can try to contact him directly, but your call/email will certainly get deleted if you're not a resident of his state.

That's just how it works. They're there to do one thing: represent the voters of their state. Some of the better (and worse!) ones see their role as something greater, but I doubt you'd have any luck with Nelson.

7. You can't
He's a vacuous simpleton.

Remember, he was the guy with the embarrassing puppylove crush on Bush. He wrote a letter to the preznit asking for a new nickname (Bush had been calling him Nellie). En route to a rally, Dubya picked him up and asked for support for the SS privatization initiative. In return, he christened Ben "the Benator", then dumped him by the roadside. A passing reporter recognized the senator and gave him a lift back to his office. Was Ben pissed? Fuck no, he was THE BENATOR.

This is the sort of kindergarten shit national policy turns on, in Ben's world.
