What part of women should not be penalized for not having penises don't you understand?
If these rat bastards could, they'd "criminalize" abortion and send the penisless to the penal system or penal colony after teste-fying that being female and pregnant and seeking to terminate is a sin/crime.

For now, they'll settle for hijacking the healthcare bill, date-gang-raping their congressional colleagues and pimping their agenda on the backs of women as second class -- or lower -- citizens, separate but unequal, Not-Men, sub-Human with internal genitalia and the power to give birth, not "normal" like those of the Male Dominant persuasion.

Tie a barbed wire bow around the uterus with a sign saying "SOLD" and jerk around an entire gender, who by virtue of birth are subservient and serve as bargaining chips for the domination class; made to jump through hoops and run in circles and die on bathroom floors, to validate the bigotry and hypocrisy of the Testicular Culture.

The attitudes of the people on DU making excuses for this are reprehensible.

2. Amen
I posted a thread earlier this evening with pictures of women who died from botched illegal abortions. All of those same pictures have been posted here many times before. But my thread was deleted.

There is a rather disgusting attitude here in regards to women's health.

7. Yes I remember
Very sad story.

Maybe because I am old enough to remember when women died from illegal abortions, I am appalled by the abortion language in the Senate bill. Perhaps it needs to be illegal again so more people get it.

Edited on Tue Dec-22-09 11:51 AM by omega minimo
It requires a dismemberment of women into separate parts that does not occur in nature.

If you would like to explain it, please do.

45. Explain which?
The rationalizers believe that there is no way to pass perfect reform with our dysfunctional government, and that while there are some truly bad things in the bill, there are enough good things, that if we can get it into place, that we can then spend the next 20 years working on improving it, fixing the problems in it, and getting rid of the rubbish in it. They believe that if we don't pass it, not only will we probably not get any kind of real reform of the health care system in the next 10 or even 20 years, that it will be a big enough hit against the Democrats that we risk losing the Senate and Congress in 2010, and losing the white house in 2012. While some people think "good let them take it back over and we'll show them what true democrats are made of", the rationalizers see that as naive, and think that the American people shouldn't be relied on for their intelligent decisions, while being manipulated by mass media and other things. Better to get something 40% good now, and spend the next 20 years working on it to make it 60% or 80% good, than to not have anything good for that same term. If this means that segments of society get screwed or other ones get gifted, they'll support it because statistically they feel that the most people win passing it, than in not passing it both short and long term, and that we'll never get anything passed that will actually benefit everyone.

It has nothing to do with women being sub-human. They have 100 cards to play, and it's just one of the cards they're playing to win the hand. It's a big card to play. It's just numbers. It's just hard to be on the card that's getting played because nobody wants to be the person sacrificed for the benefit of the majority.

Or did you mean the anti-choice position?

51. As you say: "If this means that segments of society get screwed"
By virtue of having a uterus, by being born female, women are a "segment of society"? To be used as a bargaining chip for the kind of cold blooded strategery you are describing? To be treated as separate and unequal in medical coverage, with bizarre bureaucratic obstacles placed before them, because they have the potential to give birth?

As for the "anit-choice position," the voices in threads on this bill that are making their point, are also cold blooded, judgemental, separated from reatlity. They seem to think that they have the right to butt their nose into the reproductive health/privacy of that "segment of society," again, because they are female, with the potential to give birth. No other reason. No other rationale. No respect for persons other than themselves, if they happen to be female. No respect for the privacy of others, if they happen to be female.

HYPOCRITES! And the use of the word "elective"? :evilfrown: :nuke: :evilfrown:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=7288905&mesg_id=7288905

The Reid/Nelson compromise that forces women to separately insure their uterus is simply a ploy to force women to pay out of pocket for a LEGAL medical procedure - IF they can afford it after paying for their mandated insurance coverage.

We're told that women can buy into an 'abortion pool' and separately insure their uterus for $50 a month. But there's no requirement in the bill for any insurer to provide this 'abortion pool' and indeed, given the administrative costs to set up and administer one, it's unlikely that women will even have this demeaning, offensive option.

Planned Parenthood raised this exact issue when they came out over the weekend in opposition to Nelson.

“The Nelson language is essentially an abortion rider. It creates an unworkable system whereby individuals are required to write two separate checks each month, one for abortion care and one for everything else. There is no sound policy reason to require women to pay separately for their abortion coverage other than to try to shame them and draw attention to the abortion coverage. Moreover, it is highly unlikely that insurance companies will be willing to follow such an administratively cumbersome system, leaving tens of millions of women without abortion coverage.

“After the passage of the Stupak amendment in the House, we heard loud and clear from women across the country that they will not stand for the undermining of their rights and their access to benefits. This Nelson abortion check provision will no doubt create the same outrage, as women learn that they are being made second-class citizens when it comes to health care coverage.

or as someone said here, "It's slut shaming."

59. At the very least
the most charitable interpretation I can come up with for the anti-choice pov is that the woman is entirely discounted and considered irrelevant because the life and body of the fetus is considered more important.

That seems to jive with the previous post.

is the pretense that one is separate from the other, that the fetus is not part of and dependent upon the body of the woman. Dependent for its life and development. Women are not incubators.

58. they are young, they don't remember the good old days when not only was
abortion legal but you practically had to produce your marriage certificate at the doctor's office to get birth control. There are some people who want those days back again. And if the republicans get power again they will not only take back choice and birth control, but eventually they will take back the right of women to vote. They already have tried to get some people on board and they have some religious women on their side.
