Larry the Cable Guy donates $1.2 million to Lincoln NE hospital

Snip

Larry the Cable Guy is definitely in the Christmas spirit. The comedian and his wife are giving more than $1 million to Lincoln’s Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.

Dan Whitney, Larry the Cable Guy’s real name, said his wife Cara told him about Madonna a few months ago.

“She says, ‘Honey, you’ve got to see this video.’ She started crying right away and I said, ‘I’ve got to be honest with you, I don’t think I want to see the video,’” Whitney said.

The video profiles four patients and their journey to recovery at Madonna. In particular, it showed an agonizing year for a little girl and her family from Texas. Her story touched the Whitney’s hearts.

Many here don't care for "Larry" but might like Dan better.

9. Kinda makes you think better of his alter-ego, Larry.
If I earned a ton of dough, or ever came into it somehow, I always wanted to be like "The Millionaire" on that old show from the fifties, anonymously helping people with a check for a million dollars, no strings attached.

I would love to be able to do that.

14. True, but think of it this way...
Instead of being on the hook to pay taxes for more WAR, he decided to pay for something meaningful instead.

By the way, the lower tax rates for the Wealthy Elite in this country has something to do with the wholesale sellout of this country. If the tax rate for them was back at 90%, you would see a massive amount of investing back into this country.

13. Terrible act. Nice guy. Actually not all that unusual. Even more extreme examples abound
Growing up in England (although I did briefly live in Lincoln NE too!) in the 70s and 80s I was very aware of a chap called Bernard Manning. This being DU I do NOT recommend people check out youtube fopr snips of his act. I'm somebody wo can separate humor from politics almost completely and even I can't stomach it for long. It is humor of a kind far less palatable than "Larry's" atudied yokel dumbass. He was one of the last of the virulently racist blue comedians, and almost every gag was about minorities. women, gays, and so on couched in the most objectionable stereotypes. It was also an act in every sense of the word. He was a very charitable man who engaged in no personal racism outside his stage persona, who gave considerable sums of money to all kinds of worthy causes. You just never know about celebrities who base their schtick on a selected persona. Sometimes it's close to theirs. Sometimes it's way off.
