Obama the Comedian in Chief: the Senate showed it could "stand up to the special interests"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8425284.stm

"The United States Senate knocked down a filibuster aimed at blocking a final vote on healthcare reform and scored a big victory for the American people," Mr Obama said.

<edit>

He said the Senate showed it could "stand up to the special interests" and move the nation closer to a health insurance overhaul for the country as a whole.

2. Meanwhile, those "special interests" are enjoying big increases in their stock.
And no, their stock isn't in line with the rest of the market. Their stocks are way above the market average.

So much for standing up to the special interests! :eyes: That'll teach 'em, screw around with us, and we'll send your stock into the stratosphere!! :eyes:

6. No disresptect, Mr. President, but that statement makes you sound
as if you are on a different planet.

Anyone with common sense knows the Senate Bill was a big
fat gift to the Insurance Industry. The last time I checked
the Insurance Industry is one of the biggest Special Interests.

25. If he simply said, "this is the best we could do. It's this or nothing. I know
it's a crap bill that gives away the store to the craporations, but in some small ways, some Americans will benefit and I feel that we owe them this."

That I could respect. But as others have said, how stupid does he think we are? It's a line like that, "stand up to the special interests", that makes me lose all respect for the guy. I still want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm hoping it will be revealed that this is really his evil twin, Benedict Obama, who had kidnaped the great Barack Obama when no one was looking. Russell of the last Survivor show could learn a few tricks from this guy.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

for your nervous system just to stop being surprised, indignant and shocked and let Obama and his people do and say whatever they want to and wait till his term is over. I personally did just that. Let them play with their toys, Americans will be screwed anyway.

46. They screwed over unions and progressives
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 01:32 AM by Juche
So yeah, they did get those special interests. We/they wanted something else (preferably single payer but we'd settle for a strong public option, real competition, drug negotiations and strong regulations). And we/they put $500+ million into the 2008 election with health care being a major priority.

I still support the bill because of subsides for the poor, expansion of some public plans (medicaid, health clinics) bans on pre-existing conditions and hopefully regulations on rescissions. But all it does it descend us deeper into plutocracy by empowering these same companies.

I also find Obama's statement Orwellian. Is he oblivious, is he focusing on a different aspect of the bill, does he live in a bubble, does he not think his listeners are paying attention or what? He doesn't strike me as a moron like Bush (who probably believed his own crap). Is he being intentionally deceitful or just exaggerating/focusing on different aspects of the bill than progressives?
