The applicable quote starts at about 4:20 into the video

It sounds like a promise to veto anything without a public option to me. (not that I would hold him to it, I am willing to settle for a bad bill that passes instead of holding out for a less bad bill that won't pass)

4. I really don't give a flying fuck, I support the president and the Health Care Bill.
Aren't there more important things to do?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=7303823&mesg_id=7303848

45,000,000 get single-payer care =vs.= 3,000,000 P.O. tickets ??? -- Cummon folks.

THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Ted Kennedy's existing CHC program expands along lines developed by Bernie Sanders and Ben Cardin.

The single best thing to happen for America's working poor since food stamps:

-- 14,000 nationwide Community Health Clinics

-- Expand CHC capabilities to match VHA technology

-- 45,000,000 people served

-- $$$$$ to attract 20,000 primary care physicians, nurses, etc.

-- Drugs at VHA prices

-- Dental care

-- Patient billing scaled to income

-- No profit motive. 1/5th the cost of Emergency Room treatment.

Alan Frumin, the Senate Parliamentarian, showed last April that non-budgetary insurance sections would not qualify for reconciliation. Filibusters would doom any Senate P.O.

Care is separated completely from any billing.

Harry Reid concealed Sanders-Cardin till the last hour, then popped it into the Senate HCR Bill.

10. Yes, on December 18. The OP's interview is from July...
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 09:31 PM by MercutioATC
...before Obama saw the need to revise history.

11. not an interview, this was the President's weekly radio/web address
it is written and approved in advance, not something that he could be caught off guard with.

It was a prepared statement that anything he signs would have a public option

12. Whatever. His STATEMENT, if that makes you happier.
The point was that his statements of a few days ago don't work as a valid refutation of his original statements.

15. We will be much more credible ourselves if we admit Obama is
far from perfect than blindly say things that are untrue ourselves.

L. ODonnel showed TV Clip after clip of Obama on the Campaign
pushing the PO. starting in Iowa just before that important election.

O'Donnell shows the clips with enough coverage there can be
no doubt as to what Obama is saying.

Obama appears to be trying to save face by saying he got 95%
of what he wanted and that he never wanted the P.O.

16. But he made this promise as President, not as a candidate trying to swing voters
I think this prepared statement should carry more weight than the answers to questions given to him on the campaign trail

18. the argument could be made that as a candidate he was stating his aspirations
as to what he wanted to achieve as President.

I don't think the same can be said about a promise made once he had obtained the office.
