Campaign finance reform question.
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 11:56 PM by BreweryYardRat
In countries with public funding of all campaign costs -- no corporate/private donations allowed -- what percentage of each year's gathered income taxes is required to fund the campaigns?

Because that's the thing about CFR -- we need it desperately, but is it something we can get done anytime soon? If it's a minor percentage over the current percentage of our taxes that's used for our partial public funding, it might be possible to push it past Repub/Mega-Corporation obstructionism.

But if it's a big percentage...

1. Other countries don't have campaigns that last two or three years
so less money is needed.

I suppose that might be another upside to reform - shorter campaigns.

3. Guaranteed, if the number was prohibitive we would have heard about it
It would have been drummed into our heads (like trickle down = good) for the last 20 years to prevent us from even considering it.
