So criminal insurance corporations are "the best we can do now"
Sounds like learned helplessness from propagandized and dumbed-down corporate shills. The health insurance industry is corrupt to the core, it's a broken and ruined system of greed that results in death for millions and will go bankrupt.

It is not the best we can do, it's the worst we can do.

3. The mandate is the ultimate insult
It's both the political and economic elite proving they can blatantly team against the people for their mutual benefit and the people's detriment.

8. Metaphorically, I think that's true
But they make us believe it's our decision. There was a post about a week ago from a marketing person who described how candidates and ideas are packaged for mass consumption, and in the end we only think we are acting of our own free will.

The way Bush/Cheney capitalized on 9/11 is a great example of manipulation.

I once made a comment in a political science class that, in the end, the politician with the best signs gets elected. The whole class shot me down. But I still believe it.

Look at the way the politicians and pundits were able to manipulate the teabaggers.

6. There is an odd "circle the wagons" mentality

I'm not sure why. Why is it now considered acceptable to hold politicians to a pathetic standard of conduct?

There is also the annoying tendency of some to conflate right and left criticism. The left is calling for affordable, quality healthcare. The right isn't doing that. They support the insurance companies.
