The fact that he only learned of her third-party relationship after his own contractual discussions with her had concluded only goes to confirm this.

If it was, then maybe the CIA isn't the best place to go looking for info - given that Van Owen was working for them too. If, on the other hand, Van Owen was his CIA contact, Roland might be looking for him.
