Teresa Heinz Kerry reveals she has breast cancer
Sorry to hear it. I hope things go well.

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., Wednesday revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer following a mammogram.

"I was diagnosed and treated for stage one cancer (two different types) in both breasts," Heinz Kerry said in a commentary published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "The cancer was detected at an early stage thanks to a mammogram and the work of a remarkable physician who insisted on investigating beyond what the mammogram could show."

Ending two months of silence, Heinz Kerry, 71, said she underwent two operations and her prognosis for a full recovery "is good."

She said revised guidelines recommended last month by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force "struck me as misguided. But these were not ordinary circumstances, at least not for me. Just before the guidelines were released, I had been diagnosed with breast cancer."

3. My doctor urged me to have a mammogram and I finally did
I had an operation for a simple mastectomy and the checking of the lymph nodes, according to the doctor looked OK and I was relieved. But they sent the nodes to the pathologist and found I did have cancer in the nodes. Now I have to go back, have more breast removed to be sure all the cancerous cells are removed and to go in under the arm and remove the lymph nodes. I will take chemo and radiation. You never know folks from being relieved to I don't know what is going to happen next. Alto it was said to be low grade and stage one. And I am in my late 70's.
