So when do we invade Yemen?
Maybe there is some connection between the recent bomber and 'al-Qaeda' in Yemen, as reported. I don't know. Neither do the 'authorities' who are investigating the would-be plane bomber. But we've seen these conflated reports about al-Qaeda links to U.S. bombers before - either opportunistically lined up to make there appear to be an organized plot, or just outright lying to justify military or other actions. All systems are go for Yemen to become the new household face of terror for American fearmongers. We need to be careful about what we accept as truth from our government, military, and media when we endeavor to make similar linkages in our discussions and advocacy. We've definitely been burned badly by these hyped reports of linkages to 'al-Qaeda' before.

Hunt Oil, Bush contributor and buddy was the first foreign oil co. into Yemen. So, is Yemen another stratagetic interest being wooed by other internationals? Something else for me to do some reading on. It seems a strange place to suddenly send in unmanned drones and kill civilians with little or no regret or apology, imo. Another pretense Al Quaeda where is in the process of turning Yemen into a stronghold so that children and women can be wiped out without recourse in the never-ending war on terra?

Borders should not be an issue when killing suspected extremists all over the world. I am so happy President Obama is continuing with searching and liquidating the bad guys everywhere.

19. Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and other groups keep going; they aren't springing up from out of the ground.
The resentment and anger caused by the West's murder of civilians through invasion and occupation as well as our longstanding support of brutal, impoverishing regimes are among the best, if not the best, recruiting tools these groups have.

So yes, we are creating more terrorists.

9/11 hijackers were Saudis. We didn't do squat with that country. Bet there are still a few terrorists there, too.

Bombing the country of origin of a terrorist won't accomplish much. Their allegience isn't to their country; it's to their cause.

21. The President has to sit down for 7 minutes and make faces.
Once that is done, he can figure out if Yemen really had anything to do with the incident. If not, then we attack.

Oh wait. Dem President now. Scratch that.

The Gulf of Aden & the Red Sea and all the commerce that flows through them in both directions - note that in spite of their qualms about regional entanglements they're weary of having their oil hijacked by regional warlords, gangs and pirates; the Saudis have had some skin in the game for a while so it's not just us

36. Sure, and that all ties in with the geopolitical borders laid down by T.E. Lawrence
on behalf of the British Crown - or BP if you prefer - without even going into the agreement with the Saudi' for them to deposit, at the time, all their petro proceeds into American & European financial institutions as earnest money, if you will, in the development of their soon to be vital resource and of course making them obscenely wealthy in the process down to the last prince and pricness...they still do, whether they are called euros or dollars they still do

That part of the world is so heavily leveraged that focusing on the woes Yemeni pirates and al-Q have befell upon themselves, by way of Iran's support of Shia agitation in and around Yemen, sadly, only picks at the surface. I'm not saying that it's right

I'm saying that the parameters of the topic are way bigger than a bread basket http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2009/11/2009111675649700628.html

The turning is near, it would seem, to when people will be suggesting: that to be fed up with outside support for destabilizing drug & warlords, roaming gangs & pirates is an unjustified position to maintain - and that the acceptable course for Yemen is to do nothing but submit to the whims of chaos
