Gitmo transfer to Yemen in doubt

WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. plans to send Guantanamo detainees to Yemen must be re-examined in light of an attempt to destroy a Northwest Airlines jet, lawmakers said.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutalla, the Nigerian man charged with Friday's bombing attempt, allegedly told authorities in Detroit that al-Qaida members in Yemen engineered the explosive device found sewn into his underwear, ABC News reported Sunday.

The Obama administration had planned to send 80 Yemenis held at Guantanamo home in the coming months.

Congressional Republicans have long opposed the plan because Yemen has a relatively weak government, fierce al-Qaida insurgencies and is the ancestral home of Osama Bin Laden.

That instability and the attack against the Northwest jet now has persuaded a leading Democrat to reconsider plans to transfer detainees to Yemen, Politico reported Sunday.

Unless of course the US Constitution is something to be ignored for political expediency. This just all boils down to the original wrongs committed by Bushco. You don't declare war on a mindset. You lead the world by example by respecting the rule of law going back as far as the Magna Carta. We got hit bad on 9/11, so go about it the right way and work with the world community and round up people you have evidence on and prosecute them. Sounds quaint, but it works. When we go about it the wrong way, it just feeds a never ending tit for tat. That strategy also erodes our freedom here at home. Now we engage a circular argument which goes round and round. The way to stop the madness is to send Bushco to the Hague and prosecute for war crimes. Never happen, I know. But there you have it. End the madness.

Of course it has everything to do with the President's promised agenda.
Why did Congress vote down funding to close Gitmo? Same reason....because the Republicans
