Connie Hines, 'Mr. Ed' actress, dies at 78
Connie Hines, 78, an actress in the 1960s TV show Mr. Ed, has died. She portrayed Carol Post, whose husband, Wilbur, was the only person who could converse with Mr. Ed, the eponymous talking horse.

Ms. Hines died last Friday at her home in Beverly Hills from complications of heart problems, said Alan Young, her Mr. Ed costar.

In the show, which ran from 1961 to 1966 on CBS, the Posts moved into a rambling country home only to find a horse in their barn. The center of the show became the banter between Young and Mr. Ed, which left Ms. Hines trying to make the most of her opportunities.

Ms. Hines was born in Dedham, Mass. In Young's 2007 book Mr. Ed and Me and More, Ms. Hines wrote a section about her career, describing her childhood in a show-business family.

More

She and star Alan Young were friends for years. They were featured on the new first season set of "Mister Ed.'

2. Bit by bit, all of the people I watched on television when I was a child
are dying off.

I would never have thought she would die before Alan Young. He is 90 years old.

8. As a little kid, I thought she was just about the most beautiful woman in the world...
and I thought Wilbur Post had to be the luckiest man alive to have a talking horse and that gorgeous lady as a wife.

RIP, Ms. Hines

12. Saw her obituary last week.
Flipping through a paper, her photo caught my eye. I knew her. Then I saw Mr. Ed.

Once as a kid, my father told me a news documentary was coming on about a horse that could talk. I thought a real Mr. Ed! Only it was just another episode of Mr. Ed.

In Holland, they called him something different. We were walking around in Afula, Israel, when this horse galloped past down the street. A Dutch girl said it was something, the horse that talks.
